About the team:

The GM Global Innovation team is currently looking for an individual with P&C insurance experience in international operations and/or other lines of insurance (commercial, collector vehicles, etc) who is passionate about disrupting the auto insurance industry by growing and evolving the OnStar Insurance business. The Emerging Business Strategy Manager for Insurance will be responsible for identifying opportunities for growth into new markets and lines of business, acquiring and collecting data to develop detailed business plans, and moving promising opportunities into the next steps for business expansion.

About the role:

This role will serve as a critical member of the OnStar Insurance team and partner with cross-functional colleagues to directly influence the strategic direction of the organization. You will contribute to and lead key strategic initiatives and inorganic opportunities that will accelerate our growth. In this role you will help drive the overall alignment and prioritization of emerging opportunities with internal capabilities and vision as well as proactively identify business and/or technical gaps and roadblocks. You will understand and prioritize evolving needs of customers in growth areas and to ensure that OnStar Insurance product offerings will adequately address those needs.

The ideal candidate must be willing to take initiative, embrace change and be comfortable taking on an evolving set of responsibilities as this space is an ever changing one. They must be willing to accept the imperfect to find the practical - but only in the near term. You must continue to strive for that ultimate advantage that brings maximum value to both the consumer and GM.

It is essential to the building of the new insurance business that both internal and external relationships be established and strengthened. By leveraging their industry experience and network, the successful candidate shall expertly bring data, insights and technology to bear across the insurance ecosystem to bring key differentiators to new and emerging markets. This person must also possess the ability to effectively present to and influence diverse audiences, ranging from senior leadership to industry colleagues.

Successful candidates will be prepared to both set and take strategic action but be more than willing to jump in and do hands-on work wherever and whenever necessary. Bringing experience in auto insurance, start-up, and strategic business development will be very beneficial. Given the ever-evolving nature of our business a complete willingness to take on other duties as assigned with a smile and enthusiasm.

Additional Job Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BA/BS or equivalent in Business, Finance, or related area of study
  • 5+ years P&C insurance experience with roles in business development, strategy, or other related areas
  • Experience in international P&C operations (Canada, Mexico, South America, China, or other) or other lines (commercial, collector, or other) is desirable
  • Advanced Excel skills required, and working knowledge of other office productivity tools
  • Experience managing complex, multifaceted, and multilayered projects
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships in a complex, multi-divisional, geographically dispersed business organization.
  • Proven ability to appropriately advise and interact with senior-level corporate executives
  • Self-starter and hands-on leader with ability to take action and make decisions
  • Strong ability to grasp complex issues facing the company quickly and understand the nature of the business and the competition
  • High level of interpersonal skills (oral, written, and presentation) to work effectively with a variety of different groups, and a strong commitment to teamwork and partnerships
  • An ability to effectively communicate complex information clearly and concisely with both business and technical teams
  • Agile and able to deal with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize and work to tight deadlines
  • Able to simplify and improve inefficient or unnecessarily complex processes
