Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Employee Relations Consultant explains Human Resources (HR) policies and procedures to supervisors and employees and assists in solving problems. This position assists with the development and administration of programs, procedures and guidelines to align employee performance/behavior with strategic goals.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health PRIDE values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence

  • Develops and maintains trusting relationships with staff and management
  • Partners with leaders and employees to assist with problem solving, explaining policies and procedures
  • Responds to unemployment inquiries and participates in unemployment hearings and provides reporting on unemployment claims
  • Participates on the Employee Engagement Committee and assists with planning events including Employee Appreciation Week, Distinguished Ambassador Dinner and employee retirement receptions, Colleagues Care program).
  • Investigates employee relations issues such as employee complaints and makes recommendations to HR leadership. Reports sensitive and/or high profile issues timely to HR management
  • Makes recommendations to the HR management team for corrective action and continuous improvement. Works with leaders on developing effective performance improvement plans and corrective action.
  • Coordinates with the 3rd party FMLA vendor on the administration of the various types of leaves of absence
  • Analyzes exit and turnover data and provides reporting to leadership
  • Responds to HR Shared Services employee requests for information within 2 business days
  • Participates in and attends meetings at the various locations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in social science, humanities, business or related degree plus at least two (2) years of experience; ORFive (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Human Resources/Employee Relations/Employee Engagement

  • Working knowledge of employment laws
  • SHRM-CP/PHR certification desirable
