Position Overview

The Engineer, Rotary Furnaces and Decoating position is accountable for providing the necessary leadership and support to maintain and improve performance from the rotary furnaces used in the company, while at the same time looking at all environmental and safety aspects. The incumbent is also expected to support the decoaters around Novelis, looking at opportunities to increase throughput and efficiency and reduce their energy consumption. These responsibilities include introduction of research, new technologies, processes and/or equipment to reduce costs and equipment downtime through active collaboration with the Sr. Manager Engineer and the Sr. Engineer, Energy and Combustion. The incumbent will also provide training, create training materials and champion sharing of best practices.

  • Implement and practice safe working practices. Ensure that EHS considerations are a priority in any new technology, product, or process implementation.
  • Clearly establish objectives and set and achieve milestones
  • Follow through on assignments with clarity and detail, playing a significant role in the contribution of projects as a SME.
  • Thoroughly and independently troubleshoot and investigate technical problems in area of expertise, research alternative solutions, to conceive and implement solutions.
  • Collect and present information at various levels on technical options available to meet specific project requirements for expected throughput. Highlight unknown and propose options to eliminate risks (e.g. research or capital expenditure).
  • Participates in the relevant MMP Value Stream Meetings. Based on plants and projects needs or gaps, presents proposals for project equipment development or optimization that could be done either internally or in collaboration with external partner(s).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Master's or PhD preferred.
  • 10-15 years plant applied engineering experience in area of expertise. Multi-plant experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of 3-D and 2-D design software.
  • Knowledge of OSI Pi Software preferred
  • Must have a detailed understanding and application of Engineering Principles and Practices related to area of expertise.
  • Detailed understanding of all equipment and processes utilized in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of cast house safety practices.
  • Knowledge of statistics and statistical methods.
  • Balance work load with high travel requirements including domestic and international (at times up to 50%)
  • Balance multiple priorities across multiple projects or work streams, always ensuring that critical projects do not get stalled by lack of guidance or support.
  • Balance time and work schedule to focus on knowledge transfer to junior technical staff.
  • Be comfortable leading a local team remotely; have the ability to influence and persuade Novelis operations and technical personnel, at all global locations, over whom there is no direct authority, to take actions and follow recommendations.
  • Experience working with global functions. Understand the difference in culture between the different countries where Novelis is active, and be able to effectively interact, while considering that customers are located in various countries on four continents, sometimes with different time zones and languages.
