Job Summary/Basic Function:
The College of Engineering is seeking an Engineering Support Manager to provide technical expertise in design and fabrication efforts in labs, facilities, and industry projects. This position will manage the research support team, manage sales and execution of industry projects, and network with internal and external partners on service capabilities for Engineering Support and New Product Development. This position serves as a critical resource to faculty, research staff, and industry clients. The successful candidate will have a strong customer service focus and be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and fabricate as needed for research, instructional projects, and industry experiments and systems.
  • Manage and mentor engineering students working on design and fabrication projects.
  • Manage operations and scheduling for the Research Machine Shop and New Product Development (NPD).
  • Provide project management support to faculty, departments/school and industry client projects.
  • Maintain project deliverables, timelines, and budgets for internal and external customers.
  • Create and maintain standard operating processes and safety procedures for activities associated with Engineering Support and NPD.
  • Recruit and manage new internal and external customers for Engineering Support and NPD.
  • Represent the College of Engineering, TechHelp, and Boise State University in various university and public forums with the purpose of networking, learning, and informing potential clients of service capabilities.
  • Manage and document employee training on equipment and safety processes.
  • Oversee installation, repair and preventative maintenance of experimental equipment used in classrooms and labs.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Ability to recruit and manage internal and external clients;
  • Ability to organize and manage equipment installation and maintenance to create and maintain an effective safety and operational processes;
  • Ability to manage financial and accounting systems for the organization;
  • Must be able to learn and apply standardized test procedures for equipment;
  • Skilled in the use of design software such as SolidWorks;
  • Ability to communicate with researchers and industry clients both orally and in written form;
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment, electrical systems, and product testing setup and activities;
  • Capable of managing and mentoring students and manage multiple

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field with 3 years of experience in design and fabrication of machine parts or electrical systems, and 3 years of experience with product development and consulting.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Engineering or like field; experience implementing product development for manufacturing principles; 6-10 years' experience in product development and manufacturing environment; ability to mentor staff and build relationships with industry owners and senior managers.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range $79,310 - $93,308 depending on experience.
