Who are we looking for?

GHD is seeking an Entry Level Transportation Engineer to work with our Transportation team on providing engineering consulting services to various clients across the Midwest. This position will be based out of our Farmington Hills, Michigan Office.

We are looking for a motivated engineer interested in contributing to the growth of our practice by supporting our team on various Transportation Engineering activities within the fields of traffic, aviation, rail and geotech. The candidate will be trained and mentored by experts in each of these disciplines. This is a great opportunity to be trained in all facets of Transportation Engineering!

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

• Perform traffic and transportation engineering activities such as traffic impact studies, parking studies, and safety studies
• Perform roadway design work, including developing traffic control plans, roadway plans and profiles, and signing and striping
• Technical analysis and report writing
• Field oversight of drilling operations, sampling and logging of subsurface conditions
• Materials testing in the laboratory and on field construction projects
• Provide engineering design support for civil engineering projects. Provide support on various field work opportunities across the transportation team
• Effectively working with key technical specialists, project team members, and delivery managers
• Report writing to document field activities and investigation findings

Develop working relationships with state and federal agency staff, and community leaders/customers.

What you will bring to the team:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university
• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Traffic/Transportation Engineering a plus
• E.I.T., i.e., passed the FE Exam a plus
• 0 to 2+ years of experience
• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle

The ideal candidate will have the following skills:

• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook
• Familiarity with MicroStation and AutoCAD Civil3d and possess ability to become proficient in each
• Familiarity with Highway Capacity Manual Software and other traffic engineering computer programs
• Ability to perform field work and travel occasionally
• Ability to acquire a Professional Engineering License in due time
• Must be self-motivated, organized, hard-working, and have strong written and technical skills
• Ability to excel in a multidisciplinary team environment as well as independently
• Commitment to safety using a behavior based safety (BBS) culture in all aspects of the job
