Job Summary

Fundamental Responsibilities:

  • Repairs and maintains a variety of gas and electrically powered custodial equipment such as: snow and leaf blowers, sweepers, buffers, vacuums, carpet maintenance machinery, high pressure pumps and sprayers.
  • Installs/replaces parts such as: bearings, motor brushes, bushings, clutch plates, and pad drivers. Oils and lubricates equipment. Tests equipment against manufacturers specifications.
  • Repairs hand tools and equipment.
  • Fabricates electrical extension cords.
  • Installs, repairs and replaces restroom fixtures. Issues equipment, maintains parts inventory, and recommends purchase/replacement of equipment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or GED
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 3 years of electrical or mechanical repair experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Required
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University Upon Hire

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Drive University vehicles as needed. Work any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed. Assist with snow removal activities as necessary. Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the department is needed to take care of the campus
  • Ability to operate equipment and demonstrate to staff

  • Knowledge of applicable building codes, campus standards, and ordinances
  • Knowledge of and ability to use materials, methods/principles and tools specific to the needs of the position

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as the ability to move about the workplace for long durations. It requires effective communication, the ability to operate machinery, tools, and controls. The role requires the ability to ascend/descend ladders/stairs, and to position one's self in low level positions, detect a variety of chemicals and/or gases. The role requires the ability to ascend to rooftops and move in tight spaces to perform and complete inspections. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
