Job Description: 

Position Summary

The English As A Second Language(ESL) Educators provide quality instruction and maintain a supportive learningenvironment in virtual and in-person classes. This position teaches BasicEnglish as a Second Language topics including, but not limited to, grammar,reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary, and technology, as directed by theLanguage Institute (LI) Supervisor according to assigned schedule.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Instruction

Plans and implements learningactivities that support course objectives and are appropriate to student needs.Provides engaging, ongoing opportunities for students to experience successthrough academic activities. Develops and maintains a safe, supportive, andinclusive learning environment. Answers questions and provides assistance tostudents regarding assignments and classroom activities. Employs appropriateassessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving courseobjectives.

Communicates progress in the course to students in a timely manner.Communicates and collaborates with other ESL Educators and leadership to ensureconsistency and quality of education. Assists in the maintenance of coursematerials and facilities, as appropriate.

Classroom & StudentSupport

Keeps accurate and up-to-daterecords of attendance and scores in accordance with established College and departmentalpolicies and procedures. Handles student concerns with respect, followsguidelines, processes and procedures, and escalates any issues to the LISupervisor or Director. Assists in the identification of students with academicor other needs, and responds by utilizing appropriate resources.

Attends all required departmentmeetings and trainings.  Ensures Collegename and image is perceived positively by external as well as internalaudience/stakeholders.  Activelyparticipates in staff development workshops which contribute to personal andprofessional growth.

Usual PhysicalRequirements

The employee frequently sits for extended periods of timeand occasionally stands and walks. Employee converses verbally with others inperson and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailedvision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts items upto 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

Normaloffice working conditions. Regular exposure to moderate noise typical tobusiness offices.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: adult learning theory and teaching methods; English grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary learning strategies, and language modes; technology in learning.Skill in: communication (verbal, non-verbal and written), adjusting to audience; maintaining the audience's attention; presenting content in a logical manner; defining clear goals, measuring and communicating student progress toward those goals.Ability to: understand students' needs and concerns; differentiate instruction appropriately; use learning aids; effectively work with a culturally and linguistically diverse population; build collaborative relationships with colleagues; maintain accurate and complete work records.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in English, a world language, Communication, or other related field; One (1) year of ESL teaching or adult learning organization experience. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in TESOL or related field, or TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification; significant ESOL teaching experience; demonstrated excellence in an adult learning organization.

Our ESL Educators have strong classroom management skills and excellent communication skills; they are adept in collaborating with others, and compassionate while still holding students to high standards. ESL Educators provide quality instruction and maintain a supportive learning environment in virtual and in-person classes. This is a part-time position, and hours may vary term to term.
