Job Summary

The Event Operations Specialist is responsible for the setup, maintenance, breakdown, check-out, check-in, and operation of Campus Services Equipment. This position is responsible for all sound, video, staging, and computer-based multimedia systems to support event needs. The Event Operations Specialist assists departments, administrative offices, student organizations, community groups, and other customers as needed in determining their audio-visual needs. Routinely meeting customers in various spaces to ensure client understanding of technology and assisting as needed. Specialist may in some cases need to alter customer's presentations to ensure compliance with the space technology restrictions. Responding to last minute requests, making recommendations to provide improved services and providing cost estimates when appropriate. This position will work hours dictated by the event needs. Weekends, evening and early hours occur often, and this position will be scheduled to service event needs.

Responsibilities

Significant duties and responsibilities include: Setup, breakdown, and operate Audio Video equipment & Presentation Software for events. Advises customers about any technical needs their event may require.; Meeting with customers at the start of their event ensures all technology is working and their presentation is functioning correctly.; Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance of Audio, Video, and Lighting equipment. Research new equipment and trends for Audio, Video, and Lighting. Work with companies to receive competitive quotes.; Train staff in proper protocol in setting up and breaking down audio and video equipment. Foster communication through regular staff meetings, constantly monitoring the work environment for opportunities for improvement and implementation of improvement initiatives.; Maintain status of all Audio, Video, and Lighting equipment in event facilities and department inventory.; Regularly stay abreast of emerging technology and available automation solutions for meeting and conference spaces.; Walks assigned areas of campus to inspect furniture and equipment for damage, reporting findings so that repairs can be scheduled.; Delivers freight, furniture, and supplies based on customer requests and work order assignments.; Ability to understand a variety of customer needs and assist in offering the best options in audio, video, and lighting to suit the event.; Assists with special projects, such as setting up and moving furniture or equipment for special events on or off campus.; Reads work orders and follows instructions.; Assists in emergency preparations, such as clearing snow, ice, felled trees and limbs, etc. from sidewalks, roadways, and driveways.; Operates delivery trucks or other equipment to assist in loading or moving materials and products.; Works with moving and set up teams and groundskeeping teams.; Serve as a brand ambassador of University Operations and Columbus State University. Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications include: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training.; Minimum of five (5) years' experience in setup, breakdown, and operation of audio, video, and lighting equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proposed Salary

The proposed annualized salary range for this position is $47,000- $52,000 and includes full benefits.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge, skills, & abilities include: Strong understanding of Microsoft PowerPoint and similar presentation software.; Ability to regularly lift 50 lbs. or more.; Ability to perform heavy lifting and strenuous manual tasks.; Ability to operate warehouse, delivery, and power equipment, such as hand trucks, chainsaws, pressure washers, etc.; Ability to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.; A valid driver's license is required for this position.

  • A credit check completed for Positions of Trust and or approved departmental Purchase Card usage;
  • Pre-employment drug testing for positions with high-risk responsibilities.
  • Motor vehicle reports are required for positions that are required to drive a Columbus State University fleet vehicle or other vehicle designated as a fleet vehicle. A successful drug screening will be required as a condition of employment a randomly thereafter.
