SUMMARY

Responsible for all aspects of Engineering Services support of campus events. Acts as a liaison between other Facilities groups (Carpentry, Housekeeping, Landscape) as necessary to enable coordinated support efforts for campus events. Attends University Athletics and Events planning and working meetings and plays an active role in event execution. Responsible for coordinating event setup and takedown of event equipment with other Campus staff (Athletics and University Events). Events that are within the scope of this position are, but not limited to; graduations, commencements, ceremonies, sporting events, student lead events, and Faculty and Staff sponsored events. Close contacts to include University Events, Conference and Support Services office, Athletics and other University departments to assure successful execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and technical assistance for events as required on campus as the University Engineering Services event liaison to campus.
  • Attend planning meetings as needed for events. Including but not limited to:
    • Athletics Operations Meetings
    • Weekly meeting with campus stakeholders.
    • Summer Camps and Conferences
    • Commencement
  • Scheduling of University Facilities Trade Staff (Electrical, Plumbing and HVAC) as required to support events.
  • Operate and maintain audio equipment for events and athletics as needed.
  • Setting up equipment (portable sound systems, tables, chairs).
  • All Facilities employees are expected to exercise behavior in accordance with University policies as well as with the Facilities Mission and statement of Core Values.
  • All Facilities employees are expected to comply to safety standards and demonstrate safe work habits.
  • Complies with all workplace safety guidelines; reports and/or rectifies safety hazards.
  • Complies with all University standards for the operation of vehicles.
  • Follows established standards for courtesy, professionalism, and customer service.
  • Completes assigned work in a timely, satisfactory manner.
  • Trains staff, as needed.
  • Schedules work according to priorities as set forth by department head to support the mission of the University of Richmond.
  • Assure compliance with all regulations and codes pertaining to trade; environmental, safety and codes.
  • Exhibits good judgment in leading others to worthwhile objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of event planning and sequential planning
  • Ability to read, understand basic map diagrams
  • Basic knowledge of event communication and media equipment
  • Exercise behavior in accordance with University and Facilities guidelines, policies, procedures, mission and shared values.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair problems of varied types.
  • Physically capable of working as a technician including lifting heavy equipment, work from ladders and hot and cold environments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and follow directions in English; ability to communicate with diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong skills in problem solving, multi-tasking, public relations, and customer service.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, and ability to prioritize work assignments
  • General knowledge of the use small electric and hand tools and the ability to use basic electrical testing devices.
  • Ability to work without supervision while prioritizing assignments appropriately.
  • Must maintain neat and professional appearance.
  • Must be courteous and professional with all customers and co-workers.
  • Must accomplish work while exercising safety standards and guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of assigned vehicle.
  • Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • REQUIRED: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Strong customer service background is desirable.
  • Trade experience preferred. (Certification not required)

WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Flexible schedule, must be able to work nights and weekends; 40 hrs./week
  • All Facilities employees are designated as essential personnel and are subject to work outside the normal work schedule on an emergency basis and are also subject to planned overtime work as required by the immediate supervisor.

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Pay Grade 4 (Hiring Range $17.18 to $21.48 per hour)
