Position Summary:

The Executive Director serves as a key member of the Faculty Affairs and Development leadership team and will work closely with the AVC of Faculty Affairs, Faculty, Division Deans, CQI, Vice Provost, and Provost to achieve institutional goals of increasing student success.

The Executive Director oversees the Teaching & Learning Center (TLC), the unit at the college responsible for faculty professional development. TLC team in planning and implementing faculty and curriculum development programs for faculty and disciplines that focus on evidence-based teaching and learning approaches. The Executive Director of the TLC is expected to teach at least one (1) 3-credit class each year.

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support for College-wide Strategy

  • Collaborate with academic departments, Deans, and Faculty Senate to align faculty development and support strategies with all academic initiatives.
  • Through an equity lens, develop programming that supports all faculty in implementing pedagogical changes that improve outcomes for underrepresented students
  • Advocate for inclusive pedagogy practices by facilitating workshops and discussions that address diverse student needs, including those related to race, gender, socioeconomic background, and ability.
  • Prioritize, direct, and evaluate the effectiveness of the TLC's programming
  • The Executive Director of the TLC is expected to teach at least one (1) 3-credit class each year.
  • Ensure that TLC programs and initiatives are informed by relevant data (e.g. student learning outcome data, successful grade rates, VFA, CCSSE, CCFSSE, etc).
  • Promote a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence and student learning.
  • Provide professional development and support to Faculty Leadership
  • Promote a culture of care
  • Promote a culture of inquiry
Support for Curriculum
  • Develop and promote resources and training opportunities that foster culturally responsive teaching practices, recognizing and valuing the diverse cultural backgrounds of both faculty and students.
  • Ensure that faculty professional development programming effectively serves all instructional areas (eg. CTE, Transfer)
  • Support faculty in developing and revising curricula and teaching practices suited to emerging ways of teaching & learning (eg Fast Track, 8-week terms, Gen Ed refresh, Open Pedagogy, and OER)
  • Support discipline faculty in effectively assessing student learning.
  • Work collaboratively with all divisions on the improvement cycle of student learning
Support for Faculty Members
  • Emphasize the importance of evidence-based teaching practices by disseminating research findings and facilitating discussions on pedagogical research relevant to faculty members' disciplines.
  • Develop, deliver, and coordinate strategic career-long professional development opportunities that support effective teaching across all modalities and disciplines
  • Oversee new faculty orientation initiatives Faculty Learning Academy (Full-time) and Adjunct Faculty Institute (Part-time)
  • Assist faculty with implementing and assessing instructional methods and incorporate an equity lens in support of teaching and learning enhancements working toward the College goal of improving outcomes for underrepresented populations
  • Ensure that faculty professional development includes training on accessibility principles and universal design for learning (UDL), aiming to create inclusive learning environments accessible to all students.
  • Incorporate wellness and self-care components into faculty development programs, recognizing the importance of supporting faculty members' mental, emotional, and physical well-being to sustain effective teaching practices.
  • Provide training on technologies that advance instructional quality.
  • Support and foster the creation of faculty learning communities.
  • Recommend and promote best practices for teaching and learning.
  • Provide pedagogical expertise in consultation with faculty to advance teaching in each instructional modality.
Day-to-Day Management
  • Provide leadership and supervision to TLC staff and faculty fellows.
  • Work with staff, faculty, and administration to develop and maintain TLC guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Prioritize, direct, and evaluate the effectiveness of large-scale faculty professional development events such as All Faculty Day, UnConferences, Teaching Strategies Workshop, Pima Online Educators Conference, and the Sustainability Teach-In.

Job Requirements:
  • Must meet minimum qualifications to teach in any PCCdiscipline, and
  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Instructional Design, Pedagogy, or a closely related field of study, and
  • Eight (8) years of related experience requiredincluding a combination of: at least three (3) years of faculty experience,experience in post-secondary teaching both online and traditional courses,experience in designing/developing courses, and/or experience designing facultydevelopment opportunities, and
  • Record of college service on strategicplanning and implementation committees preferred, and
  • Six plus (6+) years of related experience with supervisory experience.

  • An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Instructional Design, Pedagogy, or a closely related field of study
  • Six plus years of related experience with supervisory experience
  • Record of college service on strategic planning and implementation committees
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Strong leadership, supervision, and management skills
  • Proven ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships.
  • Understanding of current teaching methodologies, pedagogical practices, inclusive pedagogy, culturally relevant teaching strategies, and theories of equity and diversity in education and assessment strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting, preferably in faculty development, curriculum design, or educational administration roles.
  • Ability to collaborate with faculty, instructional designers and educational technologists to enhance the accessibility of all courses and learning materials, and to advocate for the adoption of accessible practices across the institution.
  • Experience designing and implementing professional development programs for faculty.
  • Proficiency with educational technologies and learning management systems (LMS).
  • Ability to apply analytical and critical thinking skills as well as draw conclusions and prepare accurate reports of results.
  • Skills to work in a matrix organization
  • Skills in critically evaluating pedagogical research findings, synthesizing research evidence into actionable recommendations for faculty development, and disseminating research-informed teaching strategies through workshops, publications, and presentations.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance principles and practices
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and practices
  • Skill in effective communication (both written and oral)
  • Skill in independent decision making
  • Skill in positive productive, and flexible customer service
  • Skill in budget/resource management
