GHD's Northeast Fire Protection & Life Safety business is looking for a Fire Protection Designer to join their team in Syracuse, NY. In this role, you will support a wide variety of projects involving fire protection system design, evaluation, and construction administration for both public and private sector clients throughout NY State and the Northeast.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Developing drawings and specifications for fire alarm and fire suppression systems (including special suppression systems) in AutoCAD and REVIT
  • Performing computerized hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems
  • Performing drawing reviews for compliance with building and fire codes and contract documents
  • Performing reviews of contractor's shop drawings, product data and calculations
  • Observing installation of fire protection systems for compliance with contract documents and preparing field reports
For success in this position, you will possess the following skills and qualifications:
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) certification in Water Based Fire Suppression, Special Hazards and/or Fire Alarm Systems
  • 3-10 years of experience in the fire protection industry
  • Expertise in design technology and processes, in particular with Revit & AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of ICC codes, NYS Building and Fire Codes and NFPA Standards
  • Knowledge, interpretation and application of relevant client, industry standards
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships across diverse teams and client groups
  • Robust written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues concisely
  • A passion for design and innovation
