Role Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Engineer provides expert technical support to locomotive modernization, NPI kits, Software, and Controls Obsolescence projects with broad scope and high impact to the business. In this role you will be responsible for complex assignments with long-term business implications, manage complex issues. The Senior Mechanical Engineer's focus is to ensure structural design, packaging, top level arrangements are developed to the latest standards and design practices and meeting requirements. In this role you will support projects from conception to customer delivery by being the primary contact person for engaged design teams, working to identify and drive solutions for complex design tasks and validate that they are meeting customer and internal requirements through the design review process.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Ability to excel in a lean mission-based team environment though optimized designs, validation scope, and customer focused results

• Provide technical expertise and leadership for a team of design engineers for all product design aspects of the assigned locomotive modernization or NPI projects

• Engage necessary engineering resources for successful execution

• Analyze and identify design risks and develop/implement mitigation plan

• Provide analysis of overall design with focus on design rigor and practical improvements

• Knowledge of engineering processes and tools used to create design documentation (QSW, DOORS, EDOT, PLM, Reliance, etc)

• Developing and performing validation plans

• Support and coordinate with interfacing organizations such as commercial, proposals, manufacturing, sourcing, services, reliability, global engineering, and systems engineering

• Support customer delivery and commissioning, on-site or remotely

• Communicate progress to all levels of the organization

• Mentor and develop less experienced personnel

Qualifications/ Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science

• At least 15 years of mechanical, structural, preferably in railways industry

Desired Characteristics:

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering

• Six Sigma training

• Strong mechanical/electrical design and analytical background

• Familiarity with manufacturing processes

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

• Ability to interface effectively with all levels of the organization and external customers
