Job Description

Position Summary:

The Forklift Operator performs general warehouse duties, including: shipping/receiving, packaging orders, processing orders, and stocking and re-shelving merchandise.

Ways You Will Make a Difference:

Reporting to the Materials Logistics Supervisor, the Forklift Operator performs a variety of duties, including but not limited:

  • Operating forklift in order to move pallets of product from the production staging areas to the warehouse locations and/or from warehouse to loading a truck for shipment
  • Operating forklift in order to dump pallets of product into production lines; transporting semi and finished product to and from warehouse storage:
  • Checks each pallet for correct labeling, pallet tag number, and pallet integrity before transporting to the intended processes
  • If critical labels are attached to the pallet, contact group leader before processing and reprocessing material
  • Place unacceptable pallets in the pallet repair staging area
  • Inspects forklift and wooden pallets for damage and cleanliness prior to use or storage, checks forklift battery, and reports problems to Team Lead
  • Operates hand held computer in the event that the RF system malfunctions
  • Manages shipping and receiving of raw material and finished product:
  • Pulls and prepares product for shipping, loads onto trucks to ensure accuracy, and scans product label and prints report to verify input
  • Compare amount and type of merchandise received with invoices and purchase orders
  • Scan all pallets as they are loaded onto trucks
  • Verify all quantities and proper documentation before driver leaves
  • Moving products, material, and equipment through the facility
  • Conducting material audits and checking each pallet for correct labeling, commodity code, pallet tag number, and pallet integrity before transporting to the intended process
  • Inspect material handling equipment and wooden pallets for damage and cleanliness prior to use and store
  • Utilizing scanning equipment and computers for finished goods, understanding shelf life and lot codes and following FIFO (first in/first out) rotation for WIP products
  • Work at finished goods palletizer
  • Load trucks direct from the line with finished goods
  • Recognizes, addresses, and escalates all quality issues; communicates issues and problems to Supervisor and rest of team
  • Follows safety regulations and maintains compliance of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
  • Comply with all applicable food laws, regulations, and food safety requirements
  • Perform related duties as assigned or required


Physical Activity required of the position:
  • Climbing: ascending and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, etc., using feet and legs and/or hands and arms
  • Stooping: bending body downward and forward, bending spine at waist
  • Kneeling: bending legs at knee to come to rest on knee or knees
  • Crouching: bending body downward and forward by bending leg and spine
  • Reaching: extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction
  • Standing: particularly for sustained periods of time
  • Walking: moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances
  • Pushing: using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust, downward or outward
  • Pulling: using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion
  • Lifting: raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. (Min 2 / Max 35 lbs.)
  • Grasping: applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm
  • Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds with or without correction
  • Repetitive motions: frequent movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Sitting: 70% of the time
  • Carrying: to move while supporting various items (ex: packages)


Working conditions:
  • Worker subject to inside environmental conditions: (dust, odors) protection from weather conditions; not necessarily from temperature changes.
  • Worker subject to fluctuation of temperatures for periods of more than one hour.
  • Worker subject to noise: there is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Worker subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, or exposure to chemicals.


Skills That Will Make You Successful?
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience, 6+ months experience in a similar setting
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate in English
  • Basic math skills and ability to use a calculator
  • Excellent attendance record
