Job Description

OVERVIEW

The Fuel Cell Fuel Delivery System Engineer is the programs subject matter expert of fuel cell system (FCS) fuel delivery fundamentals and operational strategies (pressure control, concentration control and associated hardware). The Fuel Delivery System Engineer works collaboratively with sibling subsystem System Engineers, FCS System Lead, FCS Architect and a diverse set of stakeholders to define the technical specification and strategies that meet FCS customer needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the primary contact for program teams, business leadership and planning for the fuel delivery subsystem. Throughout the global product development process provide readiness status for fuel subsystem functional elements.
  • Use stakeholder needs and existing requirements to establish, maintain and champion Subsystem Technical Specifications (SSTS) inside of the Next Generation DOORS® environment.
  • Develop and communicate robust architectural solutions for the arbitration of fuel cell system fuel delivery functions. Balance the diverse FCS strategies to efficiently meet customer needs and expectations.
  • Identify, define, and specify key subsystem interactions across system or system element boundaries.
  • Use typical GM tools and activities (FTA, FMEA and SEFA) to identify and reduce the probability of uncertain events or maximize the potential of opportunities provided by them.
  • Create first principal models, use provided data and work with other experts to support technical understanding, facilitate technical decision making and assessing requirement conformance.
  • Work with TRB's and development engineers to define experiments and analyze data in the pursuit of objective requirement definition and assessment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 5+ years of relevant controls or system engineering experience.
  • Technical expertise in fluid dynamics and mass transport.
  • Understanding of relevant engineering fundamentals such as gas transport, thermodynamics, and control theory.
  • Experience writing technical performance and interface requirements.
  • System thinker: derive solutions through holistic understanding of the problem and environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate differences of opinions and facilitate discussion as needed with collaborative multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Strong oral, graphical and written communication skills to effectively communicate issues, status and recommendations to senior management.
  • Modeling and analysis experience, comfort using modeling to support technical understanding and decision making.
  • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others.
  • Knowledge of statistics as it pertains to engineering

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate degree in Engineering with 5+ years of experience.
  • Familiar with IBM DOORs Next Generation (Global Configuration Management, Requirements Management), and IBM Rational Team Concert
  • 3+ years of developing system or subsystem requirements.
  • 3+ years of relevant fuel cell experience
  • DFSS Certification
  • Knowledge of model based system engineering (MBSE) methodologies using UML or SysML
  • Prior risk and decision management experience reducing the probability of uncertain events and use of structured frameworks for objectively evaluating a set of alternatives.
  • Experience using design of experiments and statistical modeling methods.
