Job Description Summary

Assist the packing of product into the primary container and inspection product for visible blemishes, foreign material, misshapen units, and the insurance of a sound quality product.

Job Description

  • Maintain safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs.
  • Build cardboard cases by hand and place on case conveyer to be filled
  • Hand pack finished bagged product weighing between 10 ounces and 5 pounds into each primary container and ensure the proper count of product is in each primary container
  • Ensure the primary container has a legible code and is fit for use
  • Monitor conditions of both the primary and secondary containers when necessary
  • Monitor the line to ensure it is operating smoothly and help where necessary
  • Add crude trays to the tray maker when necessary
  • Unplug tray maker when necessary
  • Ensure product is trayed and cased correctly and efficiently with minimal amount of waste
  • Ensure the shrink wrap, drop bags and overall condition of the pack wrap is in good condition prior to casing
  • Ensure the secondary containers have the appropriate case amount in accordance with customer and case specifications
  • Strip out product to garbage when necessary
  • Aid in maintaining sanitation of the assigned work area which includes sweeping and other housekeeping tasks.
  • Inform the Supervisor immediately of any finished product change, excessive waste, and/or any unusual condition
  • Report any personnel problems, safety violations or hazards, infractions of plant rules, etc. to the Supervisor
  • Help train new personnel in the position of hand packing
  • Rework damaged or restricted cases and bags of product
  • Inspect cooked frozen products at the frozen inspection stations in the coldroom
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area at all times and exhibit good personal hygiene
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
  • Ability to effectively speak and listen to information in one on one and in small group situations with other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out oral instructions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two step instructions.
  • Properly use Lockouts, safety procedures and be constantly aware of your safety and team members safety.
  • Ability to wear and use appropriate PPE like ear plugs, hair net, safety glasses and hard hat.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and must be able to move quickly
  • The surface the employee must walk on is a level, non-slip concrete surface
  • Must be able to climb up two (2) to twenty (20) steps, to get to the trim/inspection areas
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel
  • Reach with hands and arms and talk or hear
  • Must have good eye-hand coordination
  • Must be able to push and pull up to 35 pounds on occasion.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds; frequently lift 10 ounces to 5 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Moderate physical labor
  • Good vision and good reflexes
  • Must be able to bend the body at waist level on a continuous basis.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to a cold environment.
  • Will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts
  • May be occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud
  • Will regularly work around forklift traffic

This compensation is specific to this position and takes into account a number of variables. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to a candidate's work location, job duties, experience and expertise. A reasonable hourly estimate of the range for this role based on the variables previously mentioned is: $16.85
