Global Plant and Animal Genomics Segment Marketing Lead

Summary:
PacBio sequencing has become an important technology platform in the study of plant and animal genomics. Our highly accurate, long read technology delivers significant benefits in the creation of reference genomes, biodiversity, and conservation programs and in commercial agriculture. This role is for the global marketing lead focused on the plant and animal genomics (PAG) market. The successful candidate is responsible for driving the company's global marketing strategy and tactical market development activities and leading, developing, and mentoring a team of marketing professionals to grow the business.

Primary Responsibilities:

Business Leader: Internal champion and external face of the PAG business. Develops and amplifies internal and external vision for PacBio's near and long-term contributions to basic research and applied use cases.

Market Development: Lead a team of marketing professionals who will be responsible for identifying growth opportunities, creating demand, and positioning PacBio's PAG solutions portfolio. Understand market trends, market dynamics, customer needs and competitive activities. Engage deeply with key thought leaders, global, national, and state agriculture authorities, government agencies, NGOs, and the private sector to develop and drive demand for PacBio sequencing. Organize KOL studies and scientific advisory events to inform segment strategy and market development plans.

Team Management and Leadership: Provide development, coaching, and guidance to the PAG marketing team.

Segment Strategy: Build and maintain a multi-year market model and financial projections. Develop and execute strategic marketing plan for key geographic markets to meet revenue objectives. Partner with local commercial leads to bring back product requirements. Identify and assess partnership opportunities and perform market intelligence to inform product development efforts and other investments. Collaborate with local commercial leads to guide strategy and execution.

Execution of Campaigns, Programs, and Collateral: Develop and execute global marketing campaigns and programs, create sales tools, protocols, white papers, and customer stories demonstrating PacBio workflows and applications. Deliver training to commercial team on key applications, workflows, and PacBio's portfolio of solutions for PAG.

Manage Co-Marketing Partnerships: Lead marketing liaison to strategic partners in the PAG space. Develop and execute co-marketing activities and messaging strategy with partner, co-develop effective marketing and sales collateral, and train sales organization on product positioning and co-selling tactics.

Position Requirements:

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in a life science company, commercial agriculture company or related field, ideally with >3 years as a people manager
  • Deep knowledge of or direct experience in plant and animal genomics and commercial agriculture
  • Knowledge of genomics technologies and relevant market dynamics required
  • General manager mindset - must be able to balance multiple competing priorities across near term and longer term, different functional areas
  • An analytical and strategic thinker
  • Advanced degree (PhD, MBA, MD, etc.) desirable, but not required.
  • Experience engaging with government agriculture agencies, NGOs, and research consortia
  • Experience in presenting to C-suite
  • Experience engaging with thought leaders and academic researchers in the PAG space
  • Experience in managing and functioning with industry partners
  • Proven ability to influence and partner with cross-functional teams without formal authority
  • Outstanding leadership, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Must have an excellent work ethic, exceptional judgment, and unquestionable integrity
  • Hands on, high energy, and highly responsive
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
