Responsibilities

Assists in coordination of research proposal activities for the College of Medicine (COM) by providing support for faculty, postdoctoral research assistants, students and staff applying for intramural and extramural funding and transferring awards. Activities include reviewing and analyzing proposal documents for accuracy and compliance; developing budgets; assisting with interpretation of sponsor guidelines and requirements; assisting with understanding and following COM, university, and sponsor policies and procedures; and managing all RAMP activities through proposal submittal. Serves as college-level proposal development and submittal authority. Develops and maintains effective communication and positive work relationships with COM principal investigators, COM Research Accounting, COM departmental support staff, the FSU Office of Research, other university departments, and sponsors. Effectively facilitates research activities of the COM with university departments and with federal, state, and private partners. Liaises with principal investigators, the FSU Office of Research, and sponsors to facilitate receipt of awards. Maintains knowledge of common sponsor submission policies and familiarity with submittal systems.

Coordinates advanced analysis of proposals and data. Assists with advanced special projects, special reports, and development and implementation of operating procedures. May assist with training and development activities for other COM Grants Administrators.

Creates and maintains proposal files. Compiles information for database entries on contract and grant activity as well as other office activities that are tracked for various reporting purposes. Assists with monitoring COM's Office of Research Administration email inbox and responding to requests for assistance.

Coordinates with COM Research Accounting to assist with reporting activities and complete shared tasks.

Participates in COM Pre and Post-award meetings and FSU Office of Research training opportunities. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and experience equal to eight years. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)

This position requires successful completion of the eSPEAR Certification or ability to obtain the certification within 6 months of hire.

* Knowledge of federal, state, and private sources for contract and grant funds.
* Skill in preparing clear and concise reports, policies, procedures, correspondences, and other written materials.

The ideal candidate is also detail-oriented, organized, adaptable to changing situations, and has excellent reading comprehension skills.
  • First 6 Months: The first six months will be spent in intensive training. FSU eSPEAR training will provide an understanding of the institutional research administration processes and requirements, and COM-specific training and job shadowing will provide exposure to our research enterprise, identify internal expectations, and develop familiarity with COM researchers and sponsors.
  • Typical Day in This Position: There isn't one! Pre-award proposal development support is the primary activity for the position, but there are many different tasks associated with that support. A work day could include working with a researcher to develop a project budget, communicating with FSU approvers and sponsors to clarify requirements and policies, reviewing grant opportunities, assisting with document development, preparing and coordinating proposal submittal in FSU's research administration system, collaborating with the COM Research Accounting and other college research administration teams, transferring proposal data to our internal database, and assisting with COM research events. There are also numerous training and professional development opportunities available.

Anticipated Salary Range

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $58,500, commensurate with education and experience.
