GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Health Educator will work on a research study in the Division of General Pediatrics called the First Heroes program. The First Heroes program is a new initiative aimed at improving the overall wellbeing of the mother-father-infant triad through specifically engaging and supporting new parents during pregnancy and the first year of their child's life. The Health Educator will assist in program delivery and evaluation through a randomized controlled trial (RCT) trial, examining the effects of participation in the new parent intervention vs. the current obstetric and pediatric primary care on perinatal and obesity-related outcomes. The specific goals of the study are to (1) strengthen engagement in pregnancy and parenting, (2) reduce parents' obesity-related health behaviors, and (3) address parents' social determinants of health during the perinatal period.
The Health Educator will be responsible for delivering the program curriculum, conducting one-on-one health coaching sessions with parents by phone/videoconference, and supporting the participants of the research program. Coaching calls will focus on addressing family health behaviors, behavioral recommendations, and connecting parents to local community resources to support behavior change and social determinants of health. In addition to coaching, the Health Educator will assist in the maintenance of evidence-based health coaching scripts and educational content in a variety of formats (booklets, posters, text messages, video, etc.). The Health Educator will work as part of a collaborative team within the Division of General Pediatrics. The project team will include the study's Principal and Co-investigators, a Project Manager, and Clinical Research Coordinators. The Health Educator will report to the Project Manager of the First Heroes program.
