The Department of Pathology is seeking a Human Resources Associate to enhance the human resource operations in the Department of Pathology by providing advice and guidance to the unit leadership and employees and performing transactions within all subject matters of Human Resources. Key areas of responsibility include basic HR consultation, compliance monitoring, new employee onboarding, reward and recognition, communication, strategic planning and analysis, and selected HR transactions and maintenance of employee information.

This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work upon satisfactory completion of initial training. Remote work must be performed within the State of Iowa. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.

Some position responsibilities include:

  • HR Program Administration and Operations
    • Initiate HR workflow transactions
    • Maintain confidential personnel records
  • Advising/Communication
    • Provide basic 'how-to' instructions to staff and managers regarding policies and practices such as compliance issues, employment inquiries, etc
    • Evaluate requests and exercise discretion and judgement in providing confidential information to appropriate parties
  • Talent Management & Engagement
    • Support and develop staff engagement initiatives
    • Schedule interviews
  • Strategic Planning
    • Prepare comprehensive HR reports related to compliance delinquency, hiring metrics, and other ad-hoc requests
    • Identify opportunity to improve systems and processes, achieve efficiencies, and/or improve service delivery
  • Compliance with Policies, Laws, and Regulations
    • Monitor licenses, certification, performance appraisals, department and organization compliances. Generate and distribute reports and communications to leadership regarding compliance deadlines
    • Maintain and provide personnel files for Joint Commission, CAP, and other regulatory survey visits

Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or Business Administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Prior experience in a human resources office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to work in a collaborative and team-centered work environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office and computer software applications
  • Must possess strong organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations pertinent to human resources management is highly desired
  • Prior human resources experience in a large, complex organization or in a unionized environment is desired
  • Knowledge of University and Health Care policies and procedures, including those covered by multiple employee groups (i.e. faculty, postdocs, bargaining and non-bargaining staff, graduate assistants and students) is desired
  • High volume customer service experience is desired
  • Demonstrated ability to or interest in creating detailed spreadsheets, databases, charts, and presentations is desired
