Job Description

US Wire Group is the parent of three independent companies (five manufacturing facilities) which produce steel wire and cable/wire related products that serve many industries. The independent business model fosters entrepreneurship and growth and allows professional development at all levels. US Wire Group is part of the Metals Processing Group and wholly owned by The Heico Companies, LLC.

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with leadership in supporting the business unit. This position is located in Niles, MI and carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: full cycle recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, training, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, labor relations and compliance.

Talent Management

  • Partner with the HR Manager and Corporate Talent team to manage full cycle recruiting responsibilities, maintaining job descriptions and FLSA classifications, delivering pre-hire skills testing, tracking key talent acquisition metrics, and conducting productive exit interviews.
  • Schedule and facilitate the new employee onboarding and integration process.
  • Create a candidate experience that focuses on inclusive recruitment and hiring practices.
  • Drafts and implements recruiting and hiring strategies to attract employees from diverse backgrounds.
  • Communicate and administer an on-going performance management program using company delivered tools.
  • Partner with supervisors and managers on corrective action, PIP's, IDP's and goal setting.
  • Ensure all personnel transactions are entered into the UltiPro system in an accurate and timely manner.
Employee Relations
  • Consults with line management, providing HR guidance when appropriate.
  • Provide support and counseling to employees regarding job-related conflicts, problem solving and dispute resolution.
  • Conducts and resolves complex employee relations issues by maintaining efficient, timely, thorough, and objective investigations, including all labor relations grievances.
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the HR group to develop solutions and programs to increase employee engagement.
  • Maintain and coordinate employee recognition and service award programs.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of HR related communications (Benefits/OE emails, policy changes, employee newsletter, and announcements, etc.).
Total Rewards
  • Conduct annual benefits open enrollment and other benefits related programs as needed.
  • Coordinate the administration of all Leave of Absence programs and processes with third party administrator.
  • Facilitates other leave requests, which may include accommodation requests under the ADA.
  • Maintains reasonable communication with employees on leave to facilitate smooth and timely return to work; relays communication between employees and their managers during leave within reason.
  • Advises managers and employees on the interaction of leave laws with paid time off, workers compensation, and short-term and long-term disability benefits.
  • Partner with the HR Manager to monitor wage and hour rules, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Work with Corporate HRIS and Benefits to provide system support and troubleshoot system problems.
Compliance
  • Work closely with management and employees to provide guidance regarding policies, procedures, state, and federal regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Maintain employee files ensuring documents and manuals are kept current, accurate, confidential and in compliance with company policies and government regulations.
  • Communicate and execute necessary changes to policies and procedures.
  • Perform audit and compliance functions as requested on items such as audit reports verification, commission reports and payroll information.
  • Manage the annual AAP data collection and reporting process.
Other
  • Member of the HR Council and Safety Council
  • Manage AmEx and Concur programs.
  • Review payroll changes with platform payroll administrator.
  • Manage Union programs to include annual vacation allotment, work-wear and PPE stipends and Sick and Accident program
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in human resources, business administration or a related field; certification in Human Resources preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive human resources experience, preferably in manufacturing, production, or a related industry. Demonstrated knowledge of employment law, regulations, and statutes, safety, and training.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrated strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRM systems
  • Previous experience with collectively bargained workforce highly preferred
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to consolidate data into concise, executive-ready presentations and reports
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure; ability to prioritize and organize effectively; ability to show judgment and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability confidentiality, professionalism, and decorum
  • Ability and willingness to travel an estimated 10%
