Overview

SUMMARY

Bering Straits Native Corporation is currently seeking a qualified Human Resources Technician in Anchorage, AK. The primary functions of this position is to support the BSNC Human Resources Department by handling day-to-day administrative activities and an array of departmental functions for both corporate, subsidiary, or affiliate operations. This position reports to the Human Resources Operations Supervisor and routinely interacts with shareholders, applicants and employees at all levels of the organization. This job requires some background in the Human Resources field. The incumbent would handle assignments or activities that follow well-established routine or standardized procedures.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed for this position and are not intended to reflect all duties performed within the job. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assist in posting positions, preparing offer letters, following up on any post hire actions, coordinate with pre-employment background check and drug testing companies.
  • Handle new hire processes, quality control of completed new hire forms, and any associated communications or actions.
  • Process pre-hire drug tests and background checks, receive and review results; distribute accordingly.
  • Respond to questions and inquires related to HR forms from internal and external sources.
  • Work directly with managers for employee related transactions and information.
  • Assist in processing personnel actions, payroll status changes, and employee action requests; such as new hire, pay changes, job title changes, etc.
  • Complete and respond to requests for verification of employment, unemployment or disability verification, and/or access to or copies of personnel files.
  • Serve as Administrator for BSNC electronic records system, provide trainings for electronic employment records system, and
  • Data entry of information into various systems including Applicant Tracking System (ATS); HRIS; electronic records; Sharepoint; etc. Pull reports as needed.
  • Utilize and maintain the electronic personnel files. Maintain/file employment documentation; such as the Form I-9, EEO forms, etc.
  • Administer the E-Verify system of employment eligibility verification.
  • Administer the Sharepoint website for HR forms and document access and distribution.
  • Check and distribute departmental mail daily.
  • Take all incoming phone calls for the HR department and transfer accordingly.
  • Process new hire reporting, as required.
  • Data entry of employee data, including training, I-9, drug test, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO's)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED certification.
  • Two (2) years of progressive experience in a professional office environment demonstrating good communication, time and task management, interpersonal, motivational, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the usage of computers, especially Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Must have some familiarity with federal and state employment laws, processes, and procedures and have a desire to deepen both knowledge and experience.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented and able to manage deadlines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing a multitude of tasks.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary data and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to meet and greet people, guests, visitors, employees, vendors in a friendly, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Must be fully alert at all times
  • Able to use good judgement and critical thinking to make decisions
  • Other duties as assigned.
Preferred
  • Completion of a two (2) year degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or another appropriate area of study.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR Certification or two (2) years' experience working in Human Resources.

  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation "safety-sensitive" functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi-line telephone system. The work described herein is primarily a modern office setting. Occasional travel may be required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.
