The center provides quality child care to parents pursuing a university education as well as for faculty and staff. The center has five out of five stars with the Step Up to Quality program. The center is open Monday through Friday 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the school year.Purpose:The Infant /Toddler Teacher provides primary care for children assigned to his/her group under the general direction of the Children's Center Coordinator.Duties:

  • Responsible for the care, safety, and well-being of the children assigned to the Infant/Toddler group
  • Assist with the development of lesson plans and daily schedule for Infant/Toddler groups
  • Set up and maintain the physical environment to meet the needs of Infant/Toddler age children
  • Demonstrate verbally and by role modeling, a sound knowledge of good teaching practices and of child growth and development
  • Participate in staff meeting discussions and ongoing training regarding program, children, and families
  • Provide appropriate, accurate information to families regarding their children as well as general child development information
  • Demonstrate an understanding of infant/toddler age growth and development and general knowledge of nutrition, health, and first aid
  • Demonstrate ability to work with children warmly, calmly, and in an unhurried way while maintaining a safe, clean, and pleasant environment
  • Demonstrate ability to meet the social, emotional, physical, and developmental needs of individual children
  • Contributes to team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements; exploring new opportunities to enhance the services of the Center and the Division; helping others accomplish related job results as and where needed
Primary Contacts:Children's Center Staff, children and families, Children's Center Manager, Early Childhood Education Program faculty and students, and students from other disciplines using the CenterSupervision Exercised:May exercise some oversight over Work-study students, Service Learning students, campus and community volunteersSupervision Received:Works under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed independently on routine work referring questionable cases to the Children's Center Coordinator.Qualifications Education:Must have a High School diploma. A minimum of a CDA certification, or 12 semester hours of early childhood education preferred.Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in an early childhood center preferred.
  • Specialized Training:
  • Current certification in CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease Recognition, and Child Abuse Recognition preferred. Knowledge of Step Up to Quality a plus.

Must never have been convicted or pleaded guilty to child abuse or other crimes of violence as listed in section 5104.9 of the Revised Code; must be mentally and physically fit for employment in a facility caring for young children; must pass an examination by a licensed physician not more than 30 days before employment; must be free of apparent communicable disease, including tuberculosis; must have been immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria.
