Position Title: Instructor - ESOL and Citizenship (Temporary, Part-Time, up to 19.5 hours per week)

Department: Adult Basic Education for College & Career

Rate of Pay: $25.49/hour

Closed Date: June 1, 2024; 5:00PM Arizona Time

Position Summary:

The Instructor will teach English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and Citizenship preparation class. The curriculum prepares students who are planning to apply for naturalization who must complete an interview, pass a civics test, and pass an English speaking, writing & reading exam.

This is a grant-funded position and continuation of employment is contingent upon renewed funding.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach a class twice a week for 8 week sessions
  • Deliver instruction to students using a variety of methods; adjust teaching styles to meet the needs of a diverse student population using adult learning theory/principles and content knowledge in math, writing, reading, and/or ESL
  • Keep track of weekly attendance with sign-in sheet
  • Conduct a pretest and a post test of students every session
  • Keep track of students who have interviews and who pass their interviews
  • Keep track of all required data
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and
  • At least two (2) years of related experience instructing English as an Additional Language to adults with refugee background
  • Arizona Department of Education certification or the ability to obtain the certification within sixty days of date of hire
or
  • Candidates who possess similar minimum objective qualifications should describe in detail the education and work experience you regard as establishing the equivalency
