The Business, Technology, and Workforce Education division at Waubonsee Community College is currently seeking a full-time, tenure-track Instructor of Computer Information Systems (CIS) with a commitment to teaching excellence, diversity, equity and holistic student success.

The Computer Information Systems faculty will be responsible for the development and delivery of curriculum, instruction, and student learning assessment for a range of coursework within the department with an emphasis on computer programming that supports an Associate in Science degree with an emphasis on Computer Science and Associate in Applied Science degrees in Software Development and Computer Support, as well as a range of short-term Certificate of Achievement programs. The successful candidate will demonstrate sufficient background and preparation to teach a variety of courses in the department including business information systems, introductory programming (Python), C++, Java programming, database management, and other related courses.

The full-time faculty member will participate in divisional and college-wide committees and events, demonstrate commitment to continuous improvement and ongoing professional growth; employ excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills in the classroom, and with colleagues; and support the development of interdisciplinary opportunities between Computer Information Systems and other fields.

The position is based at the Sugar Grove Campus and teaching assignments may include days, evenings and/or weekends. Courses may be offered in various delivery modes, i.e. face-to-face, flex, online, synch-online, and hybrid. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to effectively use instructional and classroom technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

Demonstrating a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline, and staying current in the subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.

Teaching introductory and upper level content courses in Computer Information Systems and related coursework within the department.

Designing syllabi, lessons, activities, assignments and assessments that address the needs of a diverse student population and ensure that students successfully meet program and course objectives and outcomes.

Incorporating learning-centered principles and concepts and motivating students to participate actively in all aspects of the educational experience.

Employing instructional and classroom technology appropriately and effectively to deliver and enhance teaching and learning in all delivery modes.

Assisting the Computer Information Systems department in the areas of curriculum development, student success initiatives, student advising, adjunct faculty mentorship, assessment of student learning, support for student clubs and organizations.

Collaborating with team members, industry, and partners (i.e. Advisory Committee, employers, transfer institutions, and secondary partners) to design and implement the most effective Computer Information Systems program that aligns with industry standards and workforce needs.

Working collaboratively with professional colleagues to serve the needs of students and the community.

Modeling professionalism with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in computer programming.

Two years of teaching and/or relevant industry experience in programming, software development, information technology, or systems analysis and design.

Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in Computer Science/Computer Information Systems.

Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite.

Relevant work experience with various programming languages (such as Python, C++, Java, JavaScript, PHP), database management systems and SQL (such as Oracle, PL/SQL, MySQL, MS SQL or Access), and working knowledge of networking tools and operating systems.

Two years of post-secondary teaching experience in Computer Science/Computer Information Systems.

Teaching experience at the Vocational/Technical or Community College level highly preferred.

Experience incorporating technology and multimedia applications into the teaching and learning process and interest in all forms of alternative learning is highly desirable.

Interdisciplinary focus integrating innovative learning strategies and the demonstrated ability to enhance the success of diverse student populations is essential.

Experience teaching traditionally underserved populations.

Experience teaching online courses.
