Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Inventory Clerk - Surgical Services ensures storage areas are orderly and organized and evaluates and recommends stock levels based upon historical supply use. This position processes returns, researches back orders, resolves discrepancy issues, and expedites open orders.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Distributes stock and non-stock items to areas as assigned
  • Conducts routine inventories on all JIT and special order supplies as may be required
  • Replenishes stock to established standards
  • Evaluates and recommends stock levels based upon historical supply use
  • Records/Reports any discrepancy or damage in shipment
  • Checks and rotates supplies with expiration dates
  • Removes outdated sterile supplies and returns them to origin for reprocessing, or secures sterile supplies as required
  • Ensures storage areas are orderly and organized
  • Places routine and special orders in accordance with established guidelines
  • Processes returns, researches back orders, resolves discrepancy issues, and expedites open orders
  • Communicates back order status to surgery personnel as well as potential critical stock outs if applicable
  • Operates handheld inventory devices

Job Requirements

  • Inventory/stockroom related experience required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and medical supplies preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, write and use basic math
  • Knowledge of commercial and/or generic names of items processed in order to fill requests
  • Ability to operate powered pallet trucks and portable hydraulic equipment
  • Data-entry skills
  • Ability to use personal computer and various software applications
  • Ability to operate a micro-based inventory control system
  • Initiative and reactive problem solving
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Close attention to detail
  • Strong follow-through and organizational skills
