Facilities Management (FM) at the University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Irrigation Technician! During the growing season this position improves irrigation systems by monitoring, trouble shooting and repairing existing systems. This role also assists with snow removal or irrigation system improvement projects.

Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the overall physical development and maintenance of the campus. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Campus Irrigation System Maintenance & Installation

  • Perform efficient walk-throughs for inspection on irrigation system to ensure accurate head performance and coverage.
  • Repair heads, valves, wiring, controllers, lateral pipe and mainline and participate in irrigation system improvement projects as needed.

Ditch Maintenance
  • Conduct cleaning of debris at the headgates of two ditches to maintain proper flow for pond replenishment.
  • Assist with chart recording and digital meter readings to account the amount of water used through the ditches and pump stations.

Snow & Ice Removal
  • Remove snow and ice from streets, parking lots, sidewalks and curbs.
  • Apply sand/salt or Anti-icing chemical mixture using various equipment.

Maintain Work Vehicle & Safety
  • Schedule and request vehicle maintenance to perform minor maintenance on Facilities Management vehicles and equipment, and coordinate with outdoor services mechanic for other equipment repair.
  • Maintain a constant supply of vehicle stock material for irrigation repairs.
  • Enforce the safety guidelines and policies created by Human Resources, Facilities management safety committee, the Outdoor services safety group, and industry standard processes.

Call Backs & Miscellaneous Duties
  • Being an essential services position, employee may have to respond to after hour’s emergency issues related to snow/ice removal, pump station, irrigation mainline, sprinkler zones, ditches, Lynx irrigation computer, radio communication system, or other job related situations.
  • Branch pick up after storms, grounds support for graduation may include: running a blower, placing mulch in beds, running a string trimmer, etc.


What You Should Know

  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to follow the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
  • This position will work five (5) eight-hour days per week, between the hours of 6:00 am and 5:00 pm, based on staffing requirements of the Department. The work week for this position will be Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday based on the staffing requirements of the Department.
  • This position is eligible for our Facilities Management Employee Referral Program.
  • This position is designated as Essential Services. A designation of Essential Services means that the employee is required to report to work at times when the campus is closed due to fire, explosion, inclement weather or other emergency situations.

  • The salary for this role is $49,920 annually.

What We Require

  • Two years of landscape maintenance or related work experience.
  • Must be a Colorado resident.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.
