ABOUT THE JOB
The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Center for Liberty of the ACLU's National office in New York City is seeking a full-time Legal Administrative Assistant. The Ruth Bader Ginsburg Center for Liberty encompasses the ACLU's work on women's rights, reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, freedom of religion and belief, and disability rights. The Center is dedicated to the principle that we are all entitled to determine the course of our lives based on who we are and what we believe, free from unreasonable government constraint and baseless stereotypes.

The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Legal Administrative Assistant in the Center for Liberty of the ACLU's National office in New York, NY.

Reporting to the Center Director, the Legal Administrative Assistant is an integral member of the Center and will have the opportunity to learn about current threats to liberty interests as well as strategies to advance our rights. The Legal Administrative Assistant will contribute to all areas of the Center's work and will report to the Director of the Center and the Center Attorney, among others.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform general administrative duties for the Center, including processing invoices, tracking expenses and case costs, generating expense reports, taking notes in meetings, etc.
  • Schedule and arrange meetings, prepare materials, and handle travel arrangements for Director and other staff
  • Conduct research for background memoranda, presentations, and other matters
  • Conduct research, prepare first drafts, and coordinate release of domestic monthly newsletter addressing religious exemptions and biannual international newsletter addressing religious exemptions and equal treatment
  • Provide administrative support for litigation, including formatting and production of briefs
  • Assist with department-wide trainings as needed
  • Provide support to other projects within the Center when needed
  • Provide administrative support for manager review of applications for open positions circumstance


EXPERIENCE amp;amp; QUALIFICATIONS
  • Self-starter and ability to take initiative
  • Strong administrative, organizational and time management skills
  • Detail oriented and adept at handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent telephone manner
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and possess experience with Internet research
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as within a team
  • A Bachelor's Degree or at least 1 year of work experience preferred
  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the ACLU

COMPENSATION
Salary for this position is $62,871. Excellent benefits package provided.
