Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • The Underwriter I will be responsible for assessing risks, utilizing resources given to ensure the company stays within compliance, and maintaining an excellent relationship with agents through email. Proficient in reviewing policies on different products, a respectable knowledge of all clerical and specialized functions, a basic understanding of our organization's structure as well as extensive knowledge of Medicare and other health/life products within Globe Life.
  • Maintain relationships with field agents, new business team, other departments within Globe Life, and specifically our underwriting team to ensure efficiency and productivity regarding current and future policies.
  • Review and assess risks while utilizing resources specifically related to an applicant's health history.
  • Review medical and prescription information
  • Emailing agents in order to obtain compliance documents that are lacking from submissions along with requesting additional information that may be necessary in order to make a decision on a policy status while staying within compliance.
  • Remain knowledgeable regarding Health/Life Insurance when pertaining to legal, state, and/or company standards
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have good organization skills.
  • Strong ability to multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Good basic math skills.
  • Must be very detail-oriented.
  • Microsoft office required, including strong Excel skills.
  • Quick learner and ability to have strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate productivity without heavy supervision

  • Ability to work full time and/or part time based on the position specifications.

Required Knowledge & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework preferred
  • LOMA 280 & 290 strongly recommended within 1 year, pursuit of FMLI recommended.
  • Medical terminology is a plus
  • 1-2 years of experience as an Underwriter trainee or Jr. Underwriter
  • Pursuit of LOMA Underwriting (UND) required
  • A combination of experience and education will be considered
