Key Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):
  • Maintains the best mix of logs possible going into the mill.
  • Maintains log booms and log storage areas.
  • Stores log bundles in a manner in which the most bundles can be stored in each pocket.
  • Sorts out low-floating bundles, mule trainloads, and any other loads that may be difficult to retrieve after a period of storage, and send these loads directly to the mill.
  • Assists as needed in "feeding slip" (moving logs into the mill) or dumping logs and in maintenance of both areas.
  • Coordinates with supervision and mechanics on maintenance and servicing of all pond boats and yard machinery.
  • Performs work in a manner that will keep river as clean as possible.
  • Performs other duties as requested
    • Performs daily safety inspections on boats and loaders.
    • Unloads and loads log trucks and rail cars; maintains log load records; operates front-end loader and mechanical shovel.
    • Assists in monitoring condition of cables and other dump equipment; in changing cables and in other department maintenance.

    If you have the following, we want to hear from you:
    • Must be self-motivated, team-oriented, and flexible.
    • Previous supervisory/leadership experience in production or manufacturing
    • Understanding of Lean Systems
    • Computer literacy
    • Experience in wood products, plywood, or veneer preferred, but not required
    • Forestry and experience with heavy equipment highly preferred.
    • Must be able to safely operate or learn to safely operate a variety of heavy equipment in all weather conditions.
    • Must have good teamwork and communication skills.
