We have 3 openings on 1st shift for a Machine Operator position. The Machine Operator positions will set up, operate and maintain conventional and special-purpose machine(s) to fabricate structural parts and assemblies with minimal assistance. Apply knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machinability of materials, and lay out techniques.

About the position:

  • Conducts himself/herself in a considerate, professional, cooperative and helpful manner toward fellow employees, customers, vendors and visitors.

  • Follows all safety policies and company-wide safety requirements; encourages action assuring safe behavior; confronts unsafe behavior and conditions proactively and positively.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures.
  • Provides needed material(s) to various workstations and/or locations.
  • Reads blueprints or instructions for job specifications.
  • Completes the loading, machining/welding/forming process, unloading, de-burring and other functions to complete set up and operation of the machine.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining.
  • Selects, aligns and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, forming dies, clamps, vices, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Starts and observes machine operation for out-of-tolerance operation.
  • Makes adjustments during the machining processes including but not limited to tool wear and changing or adjusting tools.
  • May install machined replacement parts into mechanisms, equipment and test operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance.
  • Maintains machine and associated tools with limited assistance.
  • Uses gauges and other measuring devices to check quality of work.
  • Troubleshoots incoming problems; communicates with Lead or Supervisor any that require assistance.
  • Transports product to assigned department.
  • Safely rig structures and materials for movement by overhead crane and or forklift.
  • Follows direction or instruction and asks questions for clarification.
  • Assists Team Leader or Manager with various tasks and training others as needed.
  • Cross-trains in other areas/departments as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining a clean work area both during and at the end of each work shift.

What you know:

You have a High School or GED equivalent. Candidates interested in company-sponsored GED program will be considered. Must have a respectful approach to working with others, including the following experience:
  • Basic math skills including the ability to read a tape measure and calipers required.
  • Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read blueprints preferred.
  • Experience using industrial machines preferred.
  • Forklift operation certification preferred.
  • Overhead crane experience preferred.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in one or more of the following equipment: radial drills, fin tube machinery, tube bender, butt-welder, large vertical band saw, presses, breaks and shears.

Physical & Environmental Factors:
  • Exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Stands or walks 70% of workday.
  • Required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment.
