Dow has an exciting opportunity for a Machinist located in Oyster Creek, TX and Stratton Ridge, TX.

About you

TXO TES has an excellent opportunity for a machinist supporting one of four facilities (Light Hydrocarbons 8, Light Hydrocarbons 9, Propane Dehydrogenation, Power-8) at Oyster Creek, TX or at Freeport Stratton Ridge. The machinist has a drive to perform repairs on some of the most specialized rotating equipment in the world with an expert mindset and a sense of pride in their craftsmanship. Additionally, they have excellent attention to detail; can follow procedures or will pose new or safer ideas to the team on more efficient ways to complete work. The machinist's tools and workbench are expertly organized and cleaned for the day's work. Their paperwork is always complete for purposes of investigating failures or repeat maintenance. The machinist's use of parts is with an owner's mindset; knows when simple machining work on parts will result in acceptable quality results and when they will not; knows when replacements parts are absolutely needed.

Responsibilities / Duties

The machinist's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Proficient in the installation, maintenance, repairs and troubleshooting of rotating equipment including: steam turbines; centrifugal, reciprocating, and axial flow compressors; vertical and horizontal pumps; blowers, fans, and expanders; electric motors and generators.
  • Knowledge of precision machinery alignment techniques. Adheres to clearances, tolerances, materials of construction, welding procedures, and alerts leadership if diverting from best practices.
  • Ability to work with operations and maintenance on repairs to equipment that include: replacement of mechanical seals, installation and alignment of rotating equipment, repairs to fans and blowers, repairs to reciprocating, centrifugal and screw compressors and pumps.
  • Basic knowledge of rigging and flagging.
  • Follows repair plans, procedures, and checklists. Complete repair forms to include 'as found' documentation on critical pumps or on repeat failures. Highlights inadequacies in plans, procedures, or checklists.
  • Provide input on equipment failures, repair techniques, and procedures.
  • Steward of equipment
  • Working safely in a plant environment.

Required qualifications

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • At least 10 years of mechanical equipment repair work experience is required.
  • Strong mechanical skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Must be willing to work weekends, and holidays, if required.
  • Must be willing to work overtime (extra hours beyond your regular scheduled) if required.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process

Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:

  • Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
  • Wear and use respirators.
  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.
  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.
  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • This role does involve elevated work greater than or equal to four feet above the ground

Your preferred qualifications include:

  • Journeyman NCCER qualifications

Your skills, knowledge, and abilities include:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills are required.
  • Must have strong multi-tasking, problem solving and time management skills.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills - inspire others and lead them through influence.
  • A self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
