Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager or Maint. Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician II is responsible for the timely and professional completion of maintenance related activities focused on Injection Molding Machines and related support equipment. Documentation of repairs and work will require the extensive use of the Company's CMMS. The position requires an individual with good teamwork, troubleshooting and varied repair skills, with an eagerness to provide exceptional customer service to departments and individuals throughout the company. The Technician will be required to participate and support the companie's NBS Next continuous improvement program & Journey to Zero safety program. The Technician is expected to work inside a class 8 cleanroom following specific guidelines to maintain cleanliness during maintenance activities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Expected to learn and participate in the company's Journey to Zero safety program and NBS Next growth initiatives program.
  • Will be required to take online & external safety classes per Training needs checklist based on job description. i.e. LOTO, ARC Flash, Crane Training.
  • Maintenance Techs will perform break fix and PM tasks as requested by production needs or assigned by manager or passed down from off-shift maintenance techs.
  • Focus on keeping high volume customer/product equipment running.
  • Safely repairs and executes preventive maintenance tasks on injection molding related equipment required in manufacturing operations (i.e. Grease & Clean, Thermolators, grinders, robotics, etc.).
  • Inspects and tests machinery and equipment to detect causes of malfunctions. Dismantles machinery and equipment to gain access and perform diagnoses. Removes and replaces worn or defective parts. Cleans and lubricates shafts, pulleys, gears, bearings, bushings, etc. Repairs hoses, wiring, valves, etc., reassembles and verifies proper function.
  • Perform measurements using the following equipment - outside/inside mics, calipers, torque wrenches, screw mics, dial bore gages, snap gages, digital volt meter, amp meter, etc.
  • Will require overhead crane use - training supplied by company
  • Will require forklift use - training supplied by company
  • Performs manufacturing equipment installations as directed.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical issues on all types of production equipment.
  • Communicate with coworkers in all departments using email or verbal communications.
  • Technician will be required to use Microsoft Office products, i.e. Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams.
  • Technician will be required to use IFS system to enter work order information, review equipment PM schedules, enter PM data measurements and query for various data related to equipment, parts, and PM activities.
  • Maintains good housekeeping with regard to work areas, tools, instruments, and other company equipment to continually reflect the high standards of the company.
  • Performs purchasing duties for the Maintenance department using the company's IFS software to generate, process, receive and close Purchase Orders; where applicable, administers the proper and appropriate use of a company-supplied credit card including maintaining an electronic account and submitting timely month-end statements for approval.
  • Technician will be required to begin training in Routsis to gain certification within 2-years of course start date.
  • Must be able to work inside a cleanroom.
  • The Technician will be required to work overtime and willing to be flexible and open-minded in the manner they react to changing work tasks and demands.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Associate's Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or the equivalent combination of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanic)
  • Minimum of 3-years' experience performing in-depth maintenance on injection molding machines, avionics, engines, or other technically/mechanically challenging equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret electronic drawings, pneumatic drawings, building blueprints, etc.
  • For safety and productivity reasons, the position requires the ability to read and write English. In addition, the position requires the ability to perform basic mathematical functions and produce basic written reports.
  • Will be required to take additional course work to improve skills/knowledge base where deficient or required.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Must be able to work effectively within OSHA mandated safety guidelines and perform tasks in a safe manner using proper methods and tools.
  • Must have knowledge of and apply energy control procedures (lock out/tag out) properly.
  • Must be able to use the company's electronic SDS database, read, understand and use SDS sheets.
  • Completes scheduled work on time, accurately and completely with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to interpret mechanical, pneumatic and electrical drawings.
  • Must be able to interpret standard machine manuals provided by equipment suppliers.
  • The Technician will be able to work independently, and as a team member with minimal supervision while performing responsibilities of the position.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to write or edit work instructions.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from others.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Proficient at using dial bore gages, outside mics and screw mics to perform precise measurements to 0.0000".

Computer Skills:
  • Proficient in use and navigation of Windows operating system in a networked environment including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.).

Manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear, frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Will be required to work around machinery where finger, hand and body dexterity is required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; dust; high, precarious places; chemicals (SDS provided); electrical drives and components; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate (i.e. less than 85db). Position requires ability to transport or move up to 100 pounds variable distances; the mobility and flexibility to use ladders to access and work in tight spaces or at heights in excess of six feet; and the ability to personally perform general maintenance repair tasks without endangering themselves or others. This position may require non-standard working hours at times. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Base Wage Range for this position is $23.55 to $33.65 shift premium may be available depending on shift associated with the specific job opportunity. Benefits include Medical, Rx, Vision, Dental, and Health Savings Account (HSA), Retirement and Security benefits including 401k and Life Insurance. In addition to Paid Time off and paid Holidays, each employee receives 16 hours paid time each calendar year to perform volunteer services for Nordson-sponsored events.
