Are you our next Manager, Rail Fleet?

In this role you will report into the Senior Manager of Rail Transportation leading a team of three in developing and executing the Rail Fleet Strategy. Over the next five years, you will be responsible for the negotiations on lease renewals and newbuild purchases. You will play a key role in leading the capital request process with internal stakeholders in finance, treasury, cap ex committee, commercial, operations to gain approval and alignment on rail car fleet execution. You will be responsible to provide railcar industry knowledge, drive improvements with fleet analytics and asset utilization metrics, right size rail footprint at all Mosaic's facilities, and identify key rail opportunities. Collaborate with Senior Management, Sales, Operations, Finance, Railroads & Customers (internal/external), to support sales growth opportunities and transformation volumes. As the successful candidate you will be responsible for Mosaic's fleet of 6,700 hopper cars and 350 raw materials cars.

What will you do?

  • Manage the development and execution of the rail fleet strategy to align with Mosaic's 5-year commercial plan and supply chain transformation goals.
  • Conduct SWOT analysis, Market S&D research, and Rail Industry data in collaboration with key internal stakeholders to align Mosaic rail strategy with Mosaic's corporate strategy.
  • Execute the onboarding and divesting of railcars over the next five years to maintain optimal fleet size, average age of fleet, and owned vs. lease ratio.
  • Develop and execute CR's to present to CapEx committee, finance, treasury and senior management for railcar leases and purchases.
  • Manage relationships with railcar lessors, repair companies, and associated rail technology vendors.
  • Calibrate optimal fleet size based off forecasts and improved efficiencies of fleet management.
  • Oversee the repairs and maintenance of rail fleet. Maintain budget of repairs and overall fleet.
  • Assist the Rail Team to implement new technology (Yard Management Systems and Tracking Tools) for integration of visibility and metric tracking for the rail team and other stakeholders.
  • Integrate analysis of data to provide necessary business insights and make recommendations to improve the business and optimize our fleet.
  • Develop and maintain rail reports and metrics such as lease vs. buy analysis using Power BI, BOBJ, and HANA.
  • Assist Senior Manager with managing Rail Transportation Capital, budget requirements, rail initiatives, transformation value capture and data integrity.
  • Develop and coach employees in order to retain and expand organizational talent in the rail team.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on a regular basis to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their work, roles and the business.
  • Manage performance issues when necessary. Work with employees on their career development plans and training.

What do you need for this role?

EDUCATION

REQUIRED

Bachelor's degree in Business, Transportation, Marketing, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, or Finance.

PREFERRED

Master's degree in Business, Transportation, Marketing, Engineering, Operations, , Supply Chain, or Finance.

CERTIFICATIONS

PREFERRED

6 Sigma Green Belt or higher

EXPERIENCE - YEARS & TYPE

REQUIRED
  • 7 Years experience in Supply chain or Operations with an emphasis on transportation management, contract negotiations, and Finance.
  • Financial analysis experience and data modeling
  • Proven negotiating experience

PREFERRED
  • 7 Years experience in commercial rail, fleet strategy, and rail execution
  • Optimized planning and Logistics experience
  • Data Analysis, creation of data flows, and leverage analytical mindset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

REQUIRED
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships
  • Advanced Data modeling and visualization for supply chain analytics
  • Strong financial and business acumen as it relates to Transportation and Logistics areas
  • Successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and possess the ability to interact with a variety of cross-functional positions

COMPUTER/TECHNICAL LITERACY

REQUIRED

Advance Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Word)

Working Knowledge of ERP systems, preferably SAP

PREFERRED

Power BI, BOBJ and HANA experience
