Position Overview

Product Managers own that vision by taking data driven insights and building end to end solutions. The Manager, Retail Product Management is the subject matter expert and keeper of a product or products through a successful lifecycle. Defining your product's brand and evangelizing value, in new modern product services and opportunity outcomes.

In this role, you will work closely with the Retail Business Group to understand the needs of our retail partners, develop roadmaps, and support the development of products that help retailers navigate issues in critical areas such as assortment, pricing, promotion, and supply chain planning. Additionally, this role will develop and manage a set of products that span multiple industries.

The ideal candidate will have experience and training in product management and within the retail industry. You should be familiar with using customer-driven methods for developing product roadmaps and have experience writing user stories. The candidate should also be passionate about market research, data and insights. Familiarity with both consumer data/market research and retail merchandising is a must.

Responsibilities:

Retail Industry Expertise

  • Interface directly with clients, prospects, retail business and product platforms teams to identify key market needs, opportunities and pain-points related to the competitive landscape to support product strategy recommendations
  • Gathers a deep understanding of NPD's retailer client needs, satisfaction, and what they place value in, advocating for the voice of the customer
  • Using your expertise and knowledge of the evolving retail landscape, develop an understanding of the impact of those changes on NPD's business model and client needs

Product Strategy and Revenue Growth
  • Support development, execution and alignment of the product vision and supporting strategies internally and externally
  • Drive product portfolio pipeline planning throughout the product lifecycle(s)
  • Develop understanding of the Product P&L for sustained and scalable growth
  • Develop cost/benefit analyses for new products, product enhancements and upgrades
  • Manage risk assessment process and data policies related to internal data assets, ensuring proactive risk mitigation

Product Discovery and Roadmap Management
  • Support development of product framework and ensure execution of fundamental concepts including product/market fit, product tests, client discovery process and production operations
  • Support Retail Product team in evaluation of new product ideas and managing POC/prototyping phases
  • Oversee product requirements, capabilities, and enhancements for Retail Product portfolio
  • Engage with clients and conduct discovery sessions related to product road mapping, new products, enhancements, upsells, and data change
  • Manage the Retail Product roadmap and ensure timely communication of updates to the broader teams

Product Development
  • Identify new product opportunities which create customer value and enable revenue growth
  • Create and prioritize product requirements, translating the needs across clients into specs for product capability
  • Work with technology and data platform teams to deliver award winning UI/UX solutions

Product Marketing
  • Support development of strategies for sales enablement, go-to-market and customer facing deliverables
  • Partner with internal clients and finance department in reviewing product pricing and packaging strategies and rate cards
  • Work with marketing to develop customer-facing materials supporting retail products
  • Demonstrate products as necessary to retailers and commercial teams

Creating Engaging Workplace
  • Collaborate with Product leadership and cross-functional leadership to ensure team goals and responsibilities are supported
  • Build team culture by engagement and development to strengthen performance and drive goals
  • Be an example for cross-functional relationships in a high EQ culture

Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years formal product management experience
  • 2+ years experience managing products for retailers - either in a national retail organization or software or data company providing products supporting retailer buying, assortment planning, pricing, promotion, or supply chain management
  • Undergraduate degree required, graduate certifications in retail and technology product management desired
  • Strong product management experience working with data/information preferably in syndicated and/or custom research; Experience in building data/digital products; Experience working with consumer/longitudinal data a plus
  • Prior experience developing consumer facing delivery tools/apps/dashboards a plus
  • Able to adapt communication style to suit different audiences; Ability to represent the product in client-facing situations, whether in a pre-sales support capacity, a problem-solving setting due to client dissatisfaction, or conducting a feedback session
  • Adept in use of strategic product life cycle practices such as market/client assessment, competitive benchmarking, product health, etc.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills; ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to analyze customer needs and goals to assist in generating thoughtful creative product proposals that exceed customer expectations and expand revenue opportunity
  • Skilled in translating client needs/priorities into product requirements; Understands product components and manages the process of development, deployment, and post-launch activity
  • Ability to represent the user experience of his/her products
  • Ability to conduct a product demonstration highlighting the most important applications of the data
  • Global experience is a plus
