Location/Division Specific Information

The Manufacturing Software Engineer will play a critical role at the Thermo Fisher Scientific Electrical Fault Analysis (EFA) business unit located in Fremont, California. Our factories produce low-volume, sophisticated analytical products for semiconductor designers and manufacturers to use in creating and improving their products and manufacturing processes.

The Manufacturing Software Engineer will be part of a complementary team responsible for successfully introducing new products into the factory and field. They will contribute to the ongoing improvement of products and the processes used for manufacturing and service. This role collaborates closely with Product Lifecycle Management, Product Marketing, New Product Development, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, and Global Technical Support groups to ensure the development of sustainable products. Throughout the lifecycle of our products, the Operations Engineering team implements quality, cost, and process improvements to increase customer satisfaction.

A Day in the Life:

  • Assist in developing software solutions for failure analysis analytical instruments
  • Programming .NET based desktop applications primarily in C# with some C and C++
  • Assist in developing software for automation and pattern recognition
  • Develop software testing solutions for manufacturing circuit board qualification
  • Assist with redesign and rework of existing code, build systems and tooling
  • Hands on with instrumentation to test and debug software features
  • Work with internal project teams which consist of quality, regulatory, R&D, operations, supplier/sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, and sales.
  • Lead continuous improvement supporting PPI and Lean initiatives
  • Assist with technical procedures and documents.
  • Resolves any problems encountered during manufacturing
  • Investigate and analyze customer service problems and design improvement suggestions
Keys to Success:

Education
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science or software engineering is preferred (equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered).
Experience
  • 1+ years of experience in a high-tech industry environment.
  • Must demonstrate a clear ability to think logically to solve problems
  • Experience with standard Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.) to analyze, organize, and communicate data/information throughout the organization in a clear and concise manner
  • Experience in bringing technology solutions to improve the quality, efficiency, and cost of manufacturing and service
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Familiarity with C#, C, and C++ programming languages, .NET framework, Git, and Visual Studio.
  • Other programming languages, such as R, Python, Matlab, etc., are a plus
  • Knowledge of core technologies, including vacuum, SEM, optics design, motion control, and process automation

Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $32.89-$49.30.
