Massage Therapist - 502327
SUMMARY:

Conducts Massage Therapy sessions for assigned clients and assists with special events as needed. Massage Therapists assess the soft tissue and joints of the body and administer massage therapy to relieve pain and symptoms of stress or to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts client assessments to determine the most appropriate courses of treatment
  • Explains procedures, risks and benefits to clients and informs client that they have the right to refuse, stop or alter procedures at any time
  • Administers appropriate massage techniques (soft tissue manipulation, relaxation techniques, soft tissue stretching techniques, manual pressure to specific points on the body, hydrotherapy, manual stripping or cross-fiber friction of muscle tissue, trigger point therapy, joint play and lower grade mobilizations, lymphatic drainage techniques)
  • Suggests appropriate home care and provides information about techniques for postural improvement and stretching, strengthening, relaxation and rehabilitative exercise
  • Obtains, maintains and securely stores treatment records
  • Adheres to all Health Promotion Department employee guidelines and emergency procedures in compliance with the rick management plan
  • Advocates for awareness, understanding and the diversity and inclusion of all people in Well-being facilities, programs and communications while providing a commitment to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds. Advocates for the educational and cultural benefits of providing diversity and inclusion in Health & Well-being.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current nationally accredited certification in Massage Therapy required
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and exercise physiology at a level required by the certification program
  • CPR/AED certification preferred. Required within 30 days of employment.
  • Must have access to reliable technology and skills to monitor appointments using on-line scheduling software.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in Health, Physical Education or Recreation related field preferred, but may be substituted with appropriate knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at University of Richmond

WORK HOURS:
  • Part-time, non-exempt position
  • Must be available between 7am-10pm as needed for massage therapy appointments
  • May need to work some nights and weekends

SALARY STRUCTURE:

Starting Pay Ranges

$28 - $35/hr. 1 to 6 years professional experience

$36 - $50/hr. 7 + years professional experience
