PURPOSE: The primary responsibility will be to provide mechanical engineering system and tooling design needs in the robotic systems engineering group. The ideal candidate has strong design skills and exposure to manufacturing, welding, and robotics. Experience with part holding fixtures and tooling for weldments is desirable. The Mechanical Engineer - Robotic Automation will understand and execute the design deliverables for each project and coordinate among cross-functional teams including sales, quoting, applications, controls, supply management, project management, and tool design teams to complete their projects successfully.

JOB DESCRIPTION (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Must be well organized and able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment and meet assigned milestone dates.
  • Execute CAD design and detail drawings and instructions of parts and assemblies of varying complexity and nature, including weldments, positioning equipment, machined components, and sheet metal.
  • Plan, conceptualize, and create mechanical designs and system layouts for new products and standardized systems with an ability to leverage standardized building blocks to gain cost and lead time efficiencies.
  • Interaction and involvement with related personnel during design, fabrication, integration, troubleshooting, and demonstration of equipment
  • Interact with key stakeholders, internal and external, during design reviews for system layouts and new products. Proactively seek, evaluate, and implement DFM ideas as appropriate.
  • Perform Engineering calculations and FEA to support design work as needed.
  • Act as Engineering lead, designer, and detailer for projects individually, or as part of a team effort on larger scale projects.
  • Create and modify project related documentation, including drawings, loading diagrams, spare parts lists, manuals, and costing sheets.
  • Design product that is in conformance with quote, customer purchase order, and industry applicable standards, including RIA.
  • Provide technical assistance to estimating, sales, production and service as required.
  • Work in a team environment and communication interactions will include sales, End users, Machine builders, Project Management, Engineering Teams, Management, Vendors, and other support functions.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as needed or directed in support of the Company's 2025 Strategy.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience
  • Must be self-motivated, a strong communicator, organized, and possess a strong work ethic.
  • Proven Mechanical aptitude for engineering custom & prototype mechanisms
  • 3-D modeling & design experience - Solid Works Preferred.
  • A degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field.
  • Exceptional problem solving skills with ability to troubleshoot and resolve project related issues.
  • Exposure to industrial and manufacturing equipment and experience with manufacturing processes including machining, bending, welding, and sheet metal cutting and forming is desirable.
  • Application knowledge of pneumatics and sensors.
  • Computer proficiency, including MS office. Project management software is desirable.
