Job Description

The Manager of Category Development performs a valuable role in building a strong partnership with the company's key retailers by developing and implementing analytics and insights to deliver against company, category, and customer priorities. This position is responsible for leading the development and sharing of Category Management foundations and directives throughout the organization for the assigned category. This is a remote role and can be based anywhere in the Eastern/Southern U.S. region.

Responsibilities include:

  • Establish clear Category Management strategies for the company and retailers based on Industry Trends & Consumer Insights by leveraging various data sources to construct dynamic presentations in order to communicate strategies and achieve objectives.
  • Serve as an expert in translating internal knowledge into action to identify opportunities for assigned retailers.
  • Collaborate with the account teams and cross functional teams to develop solutions to business issues. .
  • Establish and deliver best-in-class merchandising recommendations, leveraging tools such as JDA and Rich Mix.
  • Influence the customer by identifying opportunities and providing potential solutions that align with retailer and company objectives.
  • Assist with any research, and lead projects, to deliver category solutions benefitting both the customer and the company.
  • Develop category reviews, line reviews, promotion analysis, mew item trackers, etc.
  • Leverage data tools to provide reporting and insights which will further develop company and retailer objectives.
  • Develop analyses and insights that will help with business issues including: SKU rationalization, item defense, new item sell in, category reviews, new item tracking, consumer behavior, etc.
  • Incorporate advanced consumer data (Macro Level Insights Market Research, Consumer Decision Tree, Household Panel data, customer consumer data, rich mix, JDA) into analyses as relevant.
  • Partner with key internal teams such as strategy and sales to leverage insights to develop business at assigned retailers.
Job Requirements
  • 5+ years of Consumer Packaged Goods, preferably Fast Moving Consumer Goods, industry experience, primarily Category Management driven
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Microsoft Office (very strong Excel/PowerPoint), IRI, Customer and Syndicated Data.
  • Prior experience working with IRI/Nielsen syndicated and panel data
  • JDA experience preferred
  • Must be familiar with 1010 data
  • Basic Business Math
  • Foundational understanding of the Principles of Category Management
  • Data synthesis and Visualization
  • Story telling through data
  • High level of organizational skills, good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to build relationships and senior level engagement
  • Ability to extract clear, concise insights from multiple data sources.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Comfortable working remotely
  • Experience working alongside national retailers and building successful partnerships
  • Experience working and collaborating cross functionally (account teams, strategy teams)
  • Must work well in a team environment and have a demonstrated ability to operate at all levels within an organization
  • Must be able to multi-task
  • Must be comfortable leading multiple retailers for a region
  • The ability to utilize creativity and push beyond the obvious, comfortable going into "unchartered" territory in setting out recommendations, goals
  • Problem solver with a solutions oriented mindset
  • Dynamic leader who can push past obstacles, overcome objections
  • Understand the value of listening to customers, gaining insights and moving objectives forward
  • 10% or more overnight travel time required
