Position Summary
This position provides both triage and office services and supports both the Midwifery Service and the Physician Caseload in the Department of Ob/Gyn. These services will be provided on both Labor and Delivery at The George Washington University Hospital and in the offices at The George Washington Medical Faculty Associates. This position ensures the safety and health of mother and child and identifies need for additional care. It allows for continuity of care and provides necessary coverage for staffing shortages and safety needs. The Midwifery Fellow follows established standards, guidelines, procedures protocols and practices, which are developed by The George Washington University Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Education
Graduation from an accredited school of Nurse-Midwifery along with Master's Degree is required. Licensed to practice as a Midwife in the District of Columbia. Certification by American Midwifery Certification Board. Certification in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.

Experience
This may be an entry level job depending on the candidate's qualifications. Experience working as a part of a Collaborative Team of Providers required. Experience teaching residents, midwifery students, and medical students preferred . Must be an expert in Primary Cesarean Section Prevention and Normal/Natural Birth and proficient in fetal heart rate monitor interpretation and intermittent auscultation. Experience in research and writing preferred. First Assist and Vacuum Extraction preferred.

Competencies
Ability to do math calculations, input data into the computer, and analyzes data as requested. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people.
