Mountain Patrol - Giants Ridge

Giants Ridge managed by Guest Services, Inc., is looking for qualified individuals to become part of our Mountain Patrol Team. This position is critical in promoting safety in a mountain environment. Responsibilities include: administering emergency care and transporting injured or ill guests, assisting guests with questions and concerns, identifying and addressing safety issues on the mountain, and assisting with trail maintenance during the early spring and late fall time periods. Members of our Patrol Team need to be a confident skier/snowboarder and biker in all weather and conditions.

JOB SUMMARY

Mountain Patrol addresses the safety of the mountain and guests by providing emergency care and attending to safety issues on the mountain.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Biking, Skiing or snowboarding to perform open and close procedures on mountain daily.
  • Communication with other departments.
  • Maintain safe and easy access with base patrol and patrol duty stations.
  • Assists the Mountain Operations department with trail closures and posting appropriate signage.
  • Assists with set-up and monitoring of races and events.
  • Recognize and address any safety issues on the mountain
  • Perform emergency care or CPR when necessary.
  • Perform lift evacuation when necessary.
  • The ability to safely and skillfully transport a person down any trail within the recreation area boundaries.
  • The ability to safely operate a snowmobile and UTV on the mountain in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Understand the function of patrol equipment and standard procedures for its care and safe operation.
  • Maintain clean, safe and professional workstations.
  • Maintain any appropriate records as set forth by company policy and procedures.
  • Shoveling snow, sometimes deep, heavy wet snow weighing more than 50lbs per shovel full.
SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE
  • CPR Certification at the Healthcare Provider level required.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) Certification required.
  • Ability to bike, ski or snowboard required and handle patient transportation equipment.
  • Demonstrated talent for interacting with a wide variety of people; ability to effectively organize and coordinate multiple priorities; ability to learn and develop new skills; ability to problem solve.
  • Great customer services.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Moving about on foot, bike, or skis or snowboard to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the resort boundaries.
  • Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  • Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-50 lbs. with assistance frequently, and up to 300 lbs. with assistance occasionally.
  • Ability to withstand extreme cold and heat.
  • Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
  • Reading and writing work-related documents in English.
  • Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.
  • Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.
