Roles & Responsibilities:

The design and test engineer will own the evaluation of key components and sub-assemblies of Ion flexible instruments.  We are constantly looking for ways to speed up our development cycle, and getting timely and actionable data is a critical part of that process.  You will initially work on new test method development for existing designs. You will then leverage that knowledge to develop product improvements and new designs.

  • Work with clinical engineering and manufacturing to understand key drivers of product performance, durability, and ease of assembly.
  • Develop test methods, fixtures, and measurement tools to evaluate the performance of individual components and sub-assemblies.
  • Benchmark existing designs and compare candidate designs.
  • Present your findings to design engineering, clinical, and manufacturing, and use this knowledge to create novel designs that meet the needs of all stakeholders.
  • Partner with design control engineer to follow all design control SOPs and complete design control deliverables including requirements, risk analysis and testing.
  • Research and utilize knowledge of catheter component suppliers and internal catheter prototyping to facilitate rapid early design iteration.
  • Investigate and determine root cause of emerging design or manufacturing defects.
  • Provide support for pre-clinical and clinical labs.
  • Complete detailed drawings and robust tolerance analysis and update designs accordingly.
  • Determine appropriate design limit / challenge tests to be completed.
  • Support process development engineering activities.

 


 

Required Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Minimum BS Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline required, MS or Higher Preferred. Advanced degrees may substitute for experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a design engineering, manufacturing engineering, or test engineering role
  • Thorough understanding of material properties for polymers and metals
  • Experience with electronics, particularly various sensor types and how to integrate them into test fixtures
  • Demonstration of strong analytical ability to test and assess design concepts
  • SolidWorks proficient
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent written and communication skills

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Prior medical device experience, particularly endoscopes / steerable catheters
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication equipment (mill, lathe, 3D printers, etc.)
  • Experience working with and managing skilled technicians
  • Background in FEA software (Ansys or equivalent)
