Associate Directors deliver comprehensive industry knowledge and experience around engineering and operations consulting services in manufacturing and production across diverse industries. They have experience in the launch or new products or improving performance of existing manufacturing processes or both. They lead project teams on a day-to-day basis to meet client needs and develop new capabilities through their expertise and client experiences. We are looking for candidates with an analytical mindset to solve problems, fight fires, and implement solutions which improve operational performance of our international clients. Associate Directors are subject matter experts with experience in manufacturing operations of complex systems, such as automobiles, aircraft or similar systems. Experience in consulting, improving equipment, line reliability, applying best practice in shop floor management, OEE optimization, reducing process cycle time, solving technical problems, or improving FTQ as well as leading internal and external teams is expected. This role needs someone who is a strong team leader and communicator and is willing to travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading and managing projects in various industries from beginning to end
  • Develop Intellectual Capital (tools and methods) to reinforce and expand the capabilities of the team/company
  • Lead internal project teams with focus on continuous training and education of colleagues
  • Engage in sales and business development activities
  • Communicate effectively with internal project team(s) and clients
  • Present solutions to clients that build and sustain Oliver Wyman's reputation
  • Initiate customer feedback on effectiveness of services and products
  • Lead efforts developing and refining internal Oliver Wyman Engineers service offerings
  • Travel nationally and internationally as required to support clients (anticipate 50-60%)
  • Location: Boston, Detroit, Chicago, New York, Dallas, Atlanta preferred. Other Oliver Wyman office locations and remote work arrangements may also be feasible.

Supervisory responsibilities:
  • Active role in development of people across the Oliver Wyman Engineers team
  • Active role directing and contributing to internal teams developing new capabilities and offerings

Desired skills and Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate engineering degree from an accredited university
  • Additional advanced degree in a technical field of study or MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of industry experience in industrial manufacturing or production of complex systems is required. Work with OEMs in automotive, transportation, aerospace, defense or similarly complex industrial products is preferred
  • Expertise to develop and implement technical solutions for clients
  • Experience leading project teams and client engagements
  • Engineering experience with a top tier consulting firm preferred
  • Solid understanding of basic engineering, production, and quality support systems like PLM, PDM, MES or CAQ systems and data analytics knowledge (python, Simulink, Matlab)
  • Extensive experience in advanced Excel functions and programming and strong working knowledge of MS Office-Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Extensive technical and analytical skill set with great attention to detail
  • Effective time management and organization skills
  • Must be able to interface professionally, credibly, and objectively with colleagues and clients.
  • Great team player, self-directed and willing to take initiative
  • Structured and focused work ethic with attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English
