Operations Specialist
The Center for Social Concern fosters a life-long commitment to active citizenship through education, action, and reflection. Working toward this mission, the CSC strives to support students on the Homewood Campus of Johns Hopkins University through engagement opportunities with the Baltimore community. We are seeking an Operations Specialist who serves as a critical member of the Center that manages CSC program compliance to ensure the safety, security, and responsiveness of JHU in the community.

In addition, the Operations Specialist is responsible for planning, executing, and advising on best work practices to help achieve operational excellence within the CSC. The position will support the growth of programs and partnerships to ensure university compliance including potential liability, safety concerns, and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) negotiation as needed.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Operations Specialist will support the management of community engagement and student management platforms, including Hopkins Engage and Hopkins Groups, to ensure accurate compliance, data tracking and impact/service hour reporting through regularly scheduled and ongoing review.
  • This position will work closely with liaisons across campus and in the community, including university leadership, students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
  • Duties may require some weekend and evening hours.
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: record and document standard operating procedures in a centralized location and share with staff as needed.


Compliance & Operations
  • Work closely with CSC staff members to ensure programming complies with university risk management policies, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Serve as the liaison for JHU General Counsel, Risk Management, and Student Affairs compliance teams.
  • Maintain a record retention system for MOU generation and tracking with all CSC community partners, in consultation with General Counsel and Risk Management.
  • Create a centralized process to manage and track student compliance trainings across a variety of platforms including Hopkins Engage and Hopkins Groups.
  • Support the development and tracking of operational excellence within departmental programs, operations and initiatives.
  • Consistently evaluate and revise systems for implementation of best practices within the CSC.


Hopkins Engage
  • Responsible for working alongside the integrated Hopkins Engage Committee to plan and implement student, staff and partner trainings, while providing organizational support to the committee members.
  • Support, build, and implement a strategy for the CSC, campus, student, and community partner onboarding.
  • Support, collaborate, and advise campus and higher educational professionals on platform buildouts.
  • Provide weekly/monthly product feedback and requests to Give Pulse as needed.


Other Duties
  • Provide presentations and information sessions to students, parents, staff, faculty, and partners.
  • Participate in university and Higher Education committees that support the work of the Center.
  • Serve as an advisor and mentor to student organizations and CSC programming, supporting their executive boards in navigating their community engaged activities.
  • Participate in annual CSC event planning and programming including days of service and university community engagement initiatives.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree.
  • Minimum of 3 year's experience in a related field.
  • Evenings and weekends may be required.

  • Demonstrated success with management of contracts, MOUs, and community-based agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring a high degree of enthusiasm, energy, and creativity to civic engagement.
  • Demonstrated success in a complex organization managing multiple audiences, preferred work with students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, oral, public speaking, writing, and listening skills.
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple lines of communication with flexibility, humility, creativity, and humor
  • Excellent judgment and attention to detail.
  • Excellent ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Strong logistics, operations, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with Excel and Content Management Systems.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with cross functional teams and provide solutions.
  • Proven ability to cultivate trust and credibility with colleagues and to build positive and effective relationships.


*This position is a crucial part of the CSC team-based work and operates with a high level of autonomy. Candidates must possess a strong commitment to excellence and a desire to develop students and cultivate strong community partnerships.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
