Description:
The Orthopaedic Technologist works under the direction of the unit manager, physicians and nursing professionals in the application and removal of specific orthopaedic casts, soft goods and braces. Performs a wide variety of
services as a member of the patient care team in the treatment and care of patients including advanced, technical patient care procedures and general patient procedures. Assists with tasks which support the unit in order to
maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment
1.Performsapplicationofspecificcasts:UpperExtremities-shortarm,longarm andsugartong.LowerExtremities-shortlegwalking(neutral90,dorsiflex90 andaboveandplantarflex45),longlegwalking,cylinder,hipspica(unilateral andbilateral),stump(belowkneeandaboveknee),body(risserandunderarm risser),splints(posteriorarmandposteriorleg).Percentofspecificjobdutieswill varybasedonscheduledphysiciansandtheirspecialties.

2.Performsapplicationsofbraces:Hingedkneebrace,tibalfracture,statlimbs,hip adduction,AFO's,anklebracesandmilwaukeebrace.Percentofspecificjob dutieswillvarybasedonscheduledphysiciansandtheirspecialties.

3.Performsapplicationofsoftgoods:Shoulderimmobilizer,cervicalcollar,clavicle, armslings,kneeimmobilizer,cartilagekneesupport,kneecap,anklelacing, bunionsplints,wristsplints,orthotics(foot),impressionsfororthoticandpavlik harness.Percentofspecificjobdutieswillvarybasedonscheduledphysicians andtheirspecialties.

4.Performsapplicationsofpressuredressings:Acewrap,unnaboot(application andremoval),tedapplication,tedmeasurements,webrolwrap,stumpsocks, moleskin,restonandsplintmodification.Percentofspecificjobdutieswillvary basedonscheduledphysiciansandtheirspecialties.

5. AssistinGaitteaching:Cane,walker,crutches(swingthrough,non-weight bearing,2pointgait,3pointgait,4pointgait,upformchair,sittinginchairand UpandDownstairs.Percentofspecificjobdutieswillvarybasedonscheduled physiciansandtheirspecialties.

6. Demonstratecareofexternalfixtures:Upper,lower(pincareandskincare). Percentofspecificjobdutieswillvarybasedonscheduledphysiciansandtheir specialties.

7.Coordinatesandorganizesplastermaterials:Plaster,light,cellamin(waterproof),zorocandelastoplast.Percentofspecificjobdutieswillvarybasedonscheduled physiciansandtheirspecialties.

8.Removalofcastandotherorthopaedicappliances:Recordsinchartinnotesskinconditionpostcastremovals,cleansestheextremityinvolvedwith soapandwaterandalertsregisterednursethatsuturesorstaplesmustbe removed.Percentofspecificjobdutieswillvarybasedonscheduledphysicians andtheirspecialties.
