IU Innovates is a university-wide initiative to advance entrepreneurs at IU.
IU Innovates serves as a front door for IU entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs to access the programs, people, departments, and resources that support students, faculty, and staff who wish to start companies, commercialize innovation, and/or explore entrepreneurship activities.
Core to IU's strategic Plan 2030 pillars of student success, transformative research and creativity, and service to the state and beyond, IU Innovates ensures IU entrepreneurs know where to start, and continually access the right resource at the right time.

Job Summary
The Founder in Residence program engages recent alumni who are entrepreneurs. As a key part of our entrepreneurship community, the objective is to create a collaborative and supportive environment, leveraging the founder's experience as a near-peer mentor to benefit IU's entrepreneurs. Time commitment and specific responsibilities will be tailored to each individual's capacity and skill set.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Addresses the needs of IU entrepreneurs.
- Acts as a Sounding Board and Near-Peer Mentor
- Be available at the Von Lee building -front of the house- for spontaneous questions and requests.
- Responds to community members' questions in Slack.
- Reviews and offers guidance on executive summaries, pitches, customer interviews, grant proposals, marketing collateral, business plans, etc.
- Offers specialized advice in areas of personal expertise.
- Tracks Needs and Contribute to Resource Development
- Helps entrepreneurs clarify their needs, define blockers, and articulate MicroAsks.
- Proposes resources to address common issues.
- Contributes resources and events to the internal resource hub and newsletter.
- Records and tracks common questions, problems, and blockers in a central document.
- Hosts Community-Building Events and Training Activities
- Conducts workshops or collaborative work-along sessions.
- Attends IU Innovates team meetings, collaborates with team members.
- Attends and/or host lunches, hackathons, and other events to foster community and connections among founders.
- Accesses to IU Innovates space, resources, and network.
- Plays a crucial role in shaping the entrepreneurial ecosystem at Indiana University.
