Job Summary
FASE Peer Mentors will provide leadership, guidance, and transitional assistance for first-year students attending Indiana University Bloomington. Additionally, they will serve as a resource of support in assisting with the retention and on on-time graduation efforts.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Provides guidance and direction to first-year students of Indiana University
- Assists FASE students with their social and academic adjustment to college
- Maintains reasonable virtual and/or in-person contact with protégés (Zoom, office, phone, text, e-mail)
- Serves as a liaison between students and the FASE Program, alerting staff of any pressing student concerns
- Attends FASE activities virtually or in-person as directed.
- Instills and teaches values relative to education, diversity, and leadership excellence
- Plans and presents activities programs to FASE students for developmentalpurposes throughout the academic year
- Collaborates with peer mentors and FASE Advisory Board student organization in planning andimplementing virtual activities for students
- Provides logistical assistance to FAB and MAP
- Provides documentation of protégé - mentor contacts through AdRx advising tool, as well as theas bi-weekly Session Summaries at the end of each pay period
- Outside of the classroom availability to conduct virtual or in-person mentoring sessions through officehours or as arranged with protégés
- Refers students to University resources such CAPS, the Academic Support Centers, or the WritingTutorial Services
- Completes FASE mentor, program, and activity surveys and evaluations
- Provides programmatic advice and suggestions to the FASE director
- Other duties as arranged with the FASE Director
QualificationsEDUCATION
Required - Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
- Undergraduate sophomore or above in class standing
- 2.8 G.P.A. or higher
SKILLS
Required - Use of virtual tools such as email, Skype for Business, Zoom, Canvas, AdRx, etc. as appropriate
- Proficient communication skills
Working Conditions / DemandsAll FASE Peer Mentors will report to the Director of MSLD, but is also subject to take instructions from SPCs, front office support staff and/or a Graduate Mentor Coordinator.
The employee must maintain a maximum of no more than 29 hours per week across all positions of employment held with Indiana University
Additional InformationEncourages to have no more than 18 credit hours in the fall and spring semesters
