Description:
The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) Training Program is a 1-week, work-based learning experience that prepares individuals for a nursing support role and a nursing career pathway.
This is a great opportunity for individuals who want to take a CNA course and not had the ability to due to schedules, financial investment, etc. No experience required.

The program combines:
onsite classroom instruction
hands-on practice
on-the-job training
SUMMARY:

Delivers patient care and provides support for unit activities under the clinical direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Functions:

Observes patient's condition and progress (or lack of progress) toward defined outcomes, in collaboration with the RN.

Delivers patient care based on standards of care, standards of practice, and policies and procedures in collaboration with the RN.

Documents observations and care concisely and legibly.

Supports unit activities by transporting patients, maintaining physical work environment in orderly manner as directed; answering patient call lights and responding to patient requests; transporting specimens, blood, non-narcotic pharmaceuticals, supplies, and medical records as needed.

Identifies and seizes opportunities to assist healthcare team members.

•Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Completion of a nursing assistant program.

Credentials/Licensure/Certifications

Minimum: Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification obtained within one week of hire.

Preferred: Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certification.

Related Experience

Minimum: Certified Nursing Assistant, 6 months experience as a Patient Care Assistant or Nurse Technician in an acute care setting, completion of 1 clinical semester in nursing school, or completion of the MHSM PCA training program upon hire.

Preferred: One year of experience in an acute/ambulatory environment.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum: Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good math skills. Good problem-solving skills. Ability to read and understand English. Ability to balance competing priorities and maintain composure in stressful situations.
