We are seeking a Philanthropic Engagement Manager with at least 3 years of experience to help us fulfill our mission of helping people achieve education and workplace success. This position can be located at the Headquarters in Iowa City or a remote position.

The Philanthropic Engagement Manger plays a critical role in managing ACT's foundation grants profile, including grant writing and reporting, prospecting new opportunities and securing resources necessary to support our mission of closing gaps in equity and achievement.

What you will be working on:

  • Support all phases of the grant cultivation process for ACT teams, including but not limited to: identifying potential funders, refining grant project ideas, facilitating funder conversations with ACT subject matter experts, writing grant proposals with consistent narratives that are aligned with ACT' s mission and goals, and communicating grant success
  • Develop resources, research funding sources, and prepare and administer contract documents
  • Provide outreach and grant cultivation technical assistance to ACT grant seekers and external grant seekers working in collaboration with ACT teams
  • Research and identify funding sources and work in partnership with Center for Equity in Learning (CEL) team members and other ACT Teams in prospecting new opportunities and coordinating grant cultivation activities
  • Track and manage grant deadlines, proposal processes, incoming grant information and reporting requirements
  • Build, integrate and/or advance ACT' s equity goals and strategies into grant project, as needed
  • Develop and provide internal reports that identify grant milestones against goals, including but not limited to: budget reports created in partnership with ACT' s Finance team
  • Make connections with existing and potential corporate and philanthropic funders; provide progress reports to funders of secured grants and ensure funder's policies and legal requirements are followed
  • Write blogs and/or press releases in collaboration with ACT' s communications divisions to internally and externally share information about new grants secured and lessons learned from grants once closed

This could be the job for you if you have (minimum requirements):
  • Detail-oriented with strong proofreading skills
  • Understanding of the grant lifecycle process and knowledge of grant writing and grant making techniques, current trends and best practices
  • Equity - ability to articulate how racial and income equity intersect with education and workforce sectors.
  • Time management - ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities; may require flexibility with hours in order to meet grant deadlines
  • Philanthropic Awareness - demonstrated relationship with and/or knowledge of corporate and independent funders supporting education and workforce projects

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related area of study, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
  • At least 3 years of experience with grant writing and administration
  • Project or program management experience with multiple, complex projects or programs
  • Experience with office productivity tools, preferably MS Office suite
  • Demonstrated experience writing racial/income equity focused grants, and/or advancing racial/income equity projects, policies, populations or equity-focused communication efforts

It's a plus if you have:
  • Experience in or with education or ed tech industries
  • Independent Foundation and/or Corporate, Federal, or state government grant writing experience
  • Strong data tracking and analysis skills - able to identify trends and lessons learned from grant portfolio data
