Under the general supervision of the Manager or supervisor, performs Physical Therapy examinations; develops treatment plans and establishes treatment goals with patient input; and applies interventions in accordance with Standards of Practice of the profession, applicable state licensure regulations, and Newton Wellesley Hospital policies and procedures to a variety of patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric.

Essential Functions:
•Directs, implements and evaluates patient care, with a clinical assignment in relation to department need
•Establishes treatment plans and goals with patient input.
•Documents and communicates necessary patient information.
•Delegates and supervises patient related tasks to assistants, aides and support personnel.
•Collaborates with other disciplines to provide coordinated interdisciplinary patient care.
•Within the scope of job requirements, supports Organizational Excellence and customer satisfaction.
•Contributes to the ongoing professional development of self, department and Newton Wellesley Hospital

•Contributes to peer review as requested

Professional Knowledge and Competency Requirements
•Adheres to department/hospital policies and procedures
•Demonstrates proper use of equipment and supplies per established procedures
•Demonstrates competency in the use of patient care related equipment
•Assures equipment is maintained in safe and proper working order prior to use
•Meets established departmental clinical competencies in assigned treatment areas
•Performs thorough, accurate, and timely discipline-specific examinations and evaluations.
•Reexamines and modifies treatment plan as required by departmental policy
•Establishes effective and efficient individualized patient plan of care
•Plans appropriately for patient discharge from service.
•Coordinates/communicates with appropriate individuals, agencies, and institutions regarding patient discharge plans
•Demonstrates knowledge of age specific skills and roles and applies knowledge to delivery of patient care
•Effectively supervises appropriate students as assigned
•Demonstrates flexibility when aspects of task changes and engages in new programming

Quality Improvement and Program Development
•Participates, as assigned, in department Q.I. programs
•Makes suggestions for improved work processes within the scope of knowledge/skills
•Participates in department led research, including literature reviews, data collection, and completion of ethics/CITI training as assigned

•Consistently fulfills scheduled work hours and adheres to vacation and time off request procedures
•Meets productivity and documentation requirements
•Manages time effectively
•Effectively manages an appropriate patient caseload
•Demonstrates initiative within the scope of job duties

•Presents neat and professional appearance within accepted hospital and departmental guidelines
•Wears hospital identification badge per hospital policy
•Demonstrates self-assessment of professional skills and knowledge, taking initiative to obtain training as needed

•Accepts other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education/Qualifications
•At a minimum, meets licensure requirements in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Physical Therapy

Experience
•New graduates considered for employment

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations
•Licensed by the Division of Professional Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
oThe Board of Allied Health is required for Physical and Occupational Therapists
oThe Board of Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists for Speech Therapists
•CPR training is required annually
