Nordson MEDICAL designs, engineers and manufactures complex devices and components with applications in wound healing, surgical and minimally invasive, fluid management, pulmonology and interventional and structural heart. Our pioneering Advanced Polymers team was the first to manufacture and supply medical balloons to the medical device industry. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Plastics Extrusion Engineer is responsible for the following functions:

• Reads product drawings and specifications to determine machine and extrusion tooling necessary based on material requirements.
• Improve equipment startup issues, standardize production processes, improve material utilization/ yield and quality as well as reduce scrap and other costs such as changeover time through lean manufacturing concepts.
• Initiate and conduct engineering studies/projects for new processes, process changes and improvements to (1) improve safety in manufacturing, (2) improve product quality and uniformity, and (3) increase production efficiency and decrease standard costs.
• Independently design and conduct statistically valid, scientifically sound feasibility studies and process development projects, and prepare timely written updates and report of these activities.
• Work to improve yields on key process improvement projects.
• Perform and assist with extrusion process validations (IQ, OQ and PQ).
• Evaluate and recommend equipment to implement new projects, specify equipment necessary for capital improvements.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and/or Solid works and utilize these tools to make overall extrusion process efficient and project-based tooling/fixture design.
• Interface with customers and suppliers on project matters process capability studies, product quality issues, etc.
• Support quoting activities within material selection and process development.
• Initiate and conduct engineering studies/projects for new processes, process changes and improvements to (1) improve safety in manufacturing, (2) improve product quality and uniformity, and (3) increase production efficiency and decrease standard costs.
• Independently design and conduct statistically valid, scientifically sound feasibility studies and process development projects, and prepare timely written updates and report of these activities.
• Communications with executive staff, coworkers, customers, vendors, and other business contacts.
• Partner with customers to solve technical issues and determine customer requirements.
• Provide training to manufacturing personnel for new processes and products.
• Assist in the transition of product from prototype to production.
• Oversee the implementation of new equipment.
• Troubleshoot problems with exiting production processes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or relevant degree is preferred; 6 years of relevant experience is required in lieu of a degree
• Hands on extrusion experience preferred but not required

SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; basic computer skills, and related office software applications.
• Experience in developing and delivering presentations, meetings, and training events.
• Must be able to demonstrate superior technical knowledge of plastics extrusion materials, process and problem solving. Multi lumens experience is required.
• Ability to comprehend technical details and be able to interface with both technical and non-technical personnel.
• Organized, self-motivated, detail oriented, flexible in scheduling and prioritization.
• Able to connect potential technical opportunities to realized outcomes, anticipating all appropriate intermediate and long-range steps.
• Able to adjust tasks in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities.
